Which HK engines/years are affected by bad engines?

It may have actually had this update. I’ll have to get the VIN, or ask my dad. It’s been at the dealer within the last 2 years to have the valve cover gasket replaced under warranty. I’m sure they did the KSDS thing too then. I told my dad to run Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 the next...

Which HK engines/years are affected by bad engines?

Did some searching but I’m still not sure. My mom has a 2016 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 non turbo. Owned since new, and always got Valvoline syn blend 5w20. Still under the 10/100k warranty, has 80 something thousand miles. Has always consumed about a quart over an OCI. Was taking with my dad about it...

    GM aborting move to 0w-40

OP, please post a tldr for this. Is the new “fix” that all these vehicles get new engines? I thought the ones with the specific DTC code got a new engine, while everything else got 0w40?

    Printable oil change reminder stickers?

Just found a pic of one online and printed 16 per page. Problem solved haha.

    Printable oil change reminder stickers?

Anyone have a link to a template for oil change reminder stickers? The ones that go on your windshield. I note the date and mileage of all our services, but in the Carnival there’s no quick way to see when the last oil change was. Have to fumble thru the menus. I have vinyl sticker paper for my...

    2021 Odyssey oil spec

Both our vehicles have them (2016 Explorer 2.3 and 2024 Carnival).

    Mobil 1 0w-30 ESP

Do they think it’s an ILSAC oil? ESP 0w30 meets the SP engine tests, but that’s it. So it can have higher additive amounts.

Lake Speed Jr video - Ignore Factory oil specifications!

Yes, but it was a very exotic custom 0w12 oil. Not an off the shelf product.

Lake Speed Jr video - Ignore Factory oil specifications!

I think all his video is trying to say (regardless of clickbait title) is that thicker oil won’t hurt. Will it help? Maybe. Depends on engine and use case. We already knew this. Arm yourself with data about your engine and driving style, then make a decision. For example, you’ll find reports of...

    Regular vs Premium Gas Pricing

Around here it’s at least a dollar. Most smaller gas stations it’s $1.30 to $1.40 more. In my travels I’ve seen that it varies wildly. SW Florida is about a 70/80 cent spread. Eastern PA is 80 cents to a dollar more. For the longest time around me it was only a 20 cent spread, up until around 09.

    (6) 5qt jugs of Castrol 0w20 EP, $120, Metro-Detroit

Hello all. I’m selling (6) 5qt jugs of Castrol 0w20 EP, dated late 2024 (old label, but Castrol support confirmed it’s still the 25,000 mile formula). I’m past the Amazon return window on these, but I no longer need them unfortunately. $120 for all (6) jugs. Paid quite a bit more than this. This...

Castrol edge extended gold bottle questions

They don’t use titanium anymore. Other than that, I don’t think the 0w20 flavor has changed. Through the label change, multiple API revisions, etc, the Dexos license number is still exactly the same, and the PDS has the exact same specs. Going back to like 2019 or something like that. I don’t...

    Switching Brands

I do. However, it’s also been put forth that wear will always happen early into an OCI, regardless of if you’re using the same oil or not, since the detergents in the new oil will clear away the old AW additives that then reapply themselves. Something like that at least.

how are port threads on the filtered side sealed

I’ve actually recently wondered the same thing, but with the cartridge filter on our Carnival. On the cap end, it seals with a big fiber ring that presses into the cap. But on the inside, it looks like the picture. It just slides onto a circular metal piece inside the housing, no o-ring or...

    Maybe reconsider using M+H filters

That’s really weird. I had used a couple Purolator One oil filters in the Carnival, and about a month or so ago I printed out a spec sheet of their filters for my maintenance records. It plainly says 99% at 20 microns for the One filters. But now I cannot find that spec sheet anymore online.

    Anybody run the octane numbers?

Our Carnival has 12.3:1 compression, and dual-injection. It runs a lot better on 93. It’ll run on 87, and the mpg is fine. But 93 gives it so much more power. You don’t have to be ragging on it to notice either. Like most modern cars this thing loves to be in 8th gear by like 10mph, so you're...

Dominican Republic nightclub roof collapse. At least 124 dead.

I remember years ago while I was in Mexico, our cab drove by a multistory nightclub similar in size to this one. The driver told us how many people they squeezed in there on a given night. I can't remember the number, but it was INSANE given the relatively small size of the building. I wonder if...
