    Official 2025 Indy 500 Thread

Ahh come on… why the hate towards Danica? She has an INDYCAR win, multiple INDYCAR podiums and a Daytona 500 pole. I get that she got TONS of hype, but she’s better than many drivers that have suited up for any racing series.

aged lube stocked on shelf at Walmart

I remember getting 0w40 SRT and some 5w40 PP euro back around that time for like a buck or two a quart. Was probably more like 2012/2013 but it was the same bottle design. I’ve been oil sale hunting for way too long. I think I gave it all away to my dad and sister haha. It’s the thrill of the hunt…

Gm Invests in V-8 Engines Back pedaling on EVs

As long as the machining is correct on the crank, I’ll have one too!

    Which tire protectant?

I use the regular 303 on our tires. Seems to keep the tires cleaner for longer, and helps prevent the browning/blooming somewhat.

    interesting experience at fuel/convenience station

Sort of off topic, but I remember years ago I paid cash for food somewhere, and the person giving me my change gave me too much. Like a dollar more back than I should have gotten. I insisted that they take back the extra they gave me, but they couldn’t understand and just told me to keep it...

I'm impressed with my car's mpg calculation

Our Carnival is also overly optimistic. Took a trip out east last month and the screen showed just over 30 mpg average. Hand-calculated, it was just over 28. Still really good for what it is, but not accurate haha.

Engine Oil choices at a Ukrainian version of American Lowe’s

I do love seeing oil in other countries. Have always wanted to bring some home haha.

Engine Oil choices at a Ukrainian version of American Lowe’s

Very cool! Why are there like 3 different versions of Shell Helix Ultra 5w30?

Why don’t more API/ILSAC oils pursue ACEA/Euro approvals?

My bad 🙂. One thing positive I can think of though is that carrying some Euro approvals could, for a time, sway buyers from other brands. Like if M1EP starting carrying C6 approval, for example, they could use it to market their product as better since Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, etc...

Why don’t more API/ILSAC oils pursue ACEA/Euro approvals?

Not in 20 grades though. Even the Euro ones are 2.6-2.9.

Why don’t more API/ILSAC oils pursue ACEA/Euro approvals?

Yes, the simple answer is: not their target buying audience. But still, it can’t cost that much. I’ve heard that qualifying for the VW 508/509 spec for example is quite cheap. It’s likely too that many of the API/ILSAC oils (especially in 20 grade) already meet many Euro specs, or are super...

    Official 2025 Indy 500 Thread

It needs to happen! New regulations next year, AM has Newey… you just never know. Palou could come into F1 and have a competitive drive off the bat. Yuki is also a threat to an AM seat as a Honda favorite. But rumor has it that Lawrence Stroll has been fond of Palou for some time. Anyway...

    Official 2025 Indy 500 Thread

Mark my words now: Alex Palou will race alongside Lance Stroll at Aston Martin F1 next year. Palou is a Honda golden boy (and they will provide engines to AM next year). Alonso was very publicly critical of Honda whilst driving for McLaren most recently, and is off to his worst start to a...

I notice they have 0w20 on the shelf. Must be thick enough for racing? 🍿 😀

    SAE J300 Viscosity Grades

That’s what I was thinking too. Thanks for confirming! Many euro oils then are right on the edge of being a 16 grade. Not uncommon for the 508/509, 229.71 etc oils to be very low 8’s or even into the 7 cst range. Assuming most of them are right at or barely over 2.6 HTHS, they probably shear...

    SAE J300 Viscosity Grades

Wow, I never realized what a big overlap 16 and 20 grade oils have. So for those oils that fall into that overlap, like ESP 0w20 for example (7.9 cst at 100c), how is it determined what grade it is then?

M1 5w-40 FS may be too much.

If your normal oil temp is 195f you do not need to run a 40 grade in that engine.
