Any good model car shops along I-75? All of it, from MI to FL

Tomorrow we leave for a trip to Disney. Leaving from the Detroit area. One of my lifelong hobbies is collecting model cars. Usually the prebuilt 1:18 scale. Mostly Maisto, but I have some higher end ones as well for F1, Indycar, etc. We’re splitting the drive up into two days to get down there...

    My favorite part of NASCAR....

I’d rather hear a V12/V10 scream than a V8 of any kind, but the previous gen NASCARs sounded better than the current ones. They changed the exhaust plumbing and they sound more like double V4s now.

What is considered a respectable HTHS?

I’m on the same bandwagon now. Been using 3.5+ HTHS oils in my turbo Explorer for a few OCIs now. Today I’ll also be putting ESP 0w30 into the Carnival. It’s not turbocharged, but it’s very high compression and loafs along at low RPMs. Also runs pretty hot by design. I’ve used 20 grades for...

Modern Automatics, Low RPM, and Engine Longevity

Sounds like a thicker oil makes sense in a lot of these low-revving engines then. Our Carnival is like that. Loves to upshift so quickly and is always revving low. The fuel mileage is great though.

Boat engine - another rusty pulley

Since it touches the flat side of the belt, do you think paint would hold up at all? After sanding and proper prep of course. Otherwise powder coating seems like a good idea.

When to do first ATF drain/fill?

I was thinking 30k seemed more reasonable. Just wanted to check. This van has no dipstick, but it does have a drain plug and a fill plug (thru the vent), and I know the procedure and temperature to set the level via the leveling plug.

I was in the wrong and I don't care.

Are those specially marked spots actually enforceable at all? Like spots for pickup only, etc. It’s private property, but often these businesses are tenants.

When to do first ATF drain/fill?

    IIRC it’s 60k severe service.

When to do first ATF drain/fill?

Our Carnival will be one year old tomorrow (in service). We’ll be taking a long road trip in a couple weeks, and when we get back it will have close to 15k miles probably. It has 8 speeds so it is constantly shifting, and I’m thinking that an early drain/fill isn’t a bad idea. Is 15k miles too...

Is this a phone line or electric?

Lick it and tell us what happens. Do it. Because of the litigious society we live in, disregard the above haha 😄

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

No. We just drove a bit more, but on surface streets instead of interstate this time. The oil temp came up a bit to around 210 after awhile. But coolant and atf are still lower. I think the vehicle must just give some thermal overhead at those ambient temps. It DOES have an oil cooler, but I...

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

The thing is, in weather like 85f ish and under, with the ac on, the car comes up to ‘normal’ temperatures just fine.

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

Today, it was even hotter, around 95. The fluid temps were even lower for the atf and oil. ATF stayed around 195, and oil around 180. Normally oil will stay at 220+ unless idling.

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

I wondered if it had something to do with the AC also. I wasn’t brave enough to shut it off and find out haha. I know our van does not have shutters.

Interesting fluid temp observations on our ‘24 Carnival

UPDATE: Today was the hottest day of the year so far, 90f. We drove the van on interstate, and some surface roads with some bumper to bumper traffic. The oil and atf temp were the same as they always are. But the coolant temp was noticeably cooler. Typically the radiator inlet temp is around...

I’m continually impressed by the fuel mileage on our Carnival.

EPA rated mpg is 19/26/22. Over the life of the vehicle we’re right around 22 mpg. That includes a lot of 1/2 mile trips to and from school. We get gas wherever we happen to be.

I’m continually impressed by the fuel mileage on our Carnival.

Had a roughly 50 mile drive this morning. It included about 10 miles of 45 mph roads, with some traffic and stop lights. Then about 40 miles of interstate driving averaging about 75 mph, with some slow downs in between. The computer readout said 30.0 avg mpg for the trip. Based on previous math...
