    Insurance payout for stolen car

The only experience I have is with a stolen motorcycle. Progressive offered either $X and if i wanted the bike back. AFAIK, their value is pretty firm based on averaging the estimated repair costs in an accident or thr market value of totaled

Supplier wants to change quote after order?

As a person who has worked in Supply Chain for a while I would strongly suggest you question them on this before doing anything. May just be that they had a new person responding to RFQ'S or something. That said, they need to be willing to honor their quote. Period. Just don't go overboard...

    Another Hemi bites the dust.....

They shouldn't have issues with 5.7 and scat pack motors eating themselves. They aren't exactly powerhouse or pinnacles of new edge engineering. Their limit should be WAY beyond this. Chrysler/dodge has been building a lot of lower quality/ sub par vehicles, assemblies, and parts for many years.

Would you buy a rental car?

I'm not so sure maintenance is done very often or well. Out of the 3 cars I rented in thr last 6 months, 2 of them had issues and/or very little PM done as far as I could tell. Oil change on 1 was Way overdue. On another car the screen and cameras and sensors wouldn't work right . The cars were...

    Replacement chuck for Dewalt Drill

I wouldn't ever get a straight answer from them as to how it was abused. So, your guess is as good as mine. Under $50 would be good. Otherwise, I'll just buy a new drill, I think. Father's day sales are coming up in a few weeks and I can make do until then if needed.

    Replacement chuck for Dewalt Drill

I let an inlaw borrow my DeWalt 20v drill (DCD985) and low and behold the chuck is pretty much toasted. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as where to find replacements? I would like to avoid Ebay/Amazon if possible.

How will 2024 CAFE standards impact your buying?

I don't know how 49mpg CAFE is even possible when so many people buy trucks and SUV'S. I imagine there will be some heavy pushback. I wonder what the additional environmental impact is for all these cars that breakdown so much faster now. Sure, you get 4 more mpg now but your rings are...

    Project Farm?

Not that I really have a dog in this fight but what proof do you have that he lies or makes stuff up? You may not like the way he designs his videos but that is a very different situation. His videos also aren't automotive specific and he often tests 5-10 different products at a time. So...not...

Did the Vibe/Matrix manual gearbox ever become reliable?

I was unaware it was ever an issue, I guess.

Stretch / slipover CV boots any good

Sounds like a stop gap solution. That said, I have repacked a couple of CV joints before once I noticed the boots were cracked a little bit. I don't recall for certain, but I don't believe the cracks/splits were large enough to let in much debris/water. I didn't use a slip on boot but instead...

Better strategy to win scratch off lottery tickets?

I had a family member who won $10k once on a scratch ticket. She was elated and said things like 'my time has come' and continued to play the lottery because 'someone has to win it' She may have won $10k but she spend tens of thousands of dollars over the years playing the lottery in various...

    5w20 in an 08 Buick LaCross 3.8 (5w30 standard)

You would think with all of the analysis and sources cited here we would have more definitive answers by now on things like this. That said, I would run 5w30 bc that is what is recommended and oil is cheap. Not that I think it really matters but I could certainly be wrong. People here seem to...

Snap On Sockets, Ratchets and Wrenches?

SO is way over priced, in my opinion. Even most of the guys that say they love SO can't articulate a real tangible benefit. They all say "they're just better" The very few people that do have some legitimate reasoning often reference some niche situation. Some situation most of us wouldn't...

Woman died inside burning SUV that started 'going crazy'; doors wouldn't unlock

It's possible those manual knob/lever weren't working. Had this happen to me once. The manual slider lock on a chevy wouldn't budge 1 iota due to a malfunction and I was locked in the car as a result.

    Eggs For Lunch

...these studies show sugar isn't healthy. They aren't funded by big sugar. Perhaps Big Broccoli has stepped up and is funding all this research on sulforaphane ! By the same token has it ever occurred to you that the meat, egg, and dairy industry funds studies with predetermined outcomes with...

    Eggs For Lunch

I've studied nutrition for over a decade. My information comes from hundreds of studies , not a TED talk. There are TED talks about how all meat diets are the best diet and how plant foods are actually bad for our health. Lol You can do what you please and believe what you want. I will die on...

    Eggs For Lunch

Difference between glucose and insulin spikes. There are studies which give control groups and diabetics carbs and then carbs with fats (usually animal fats or meat). Insulin spikes much higher when the saturated fats are present and saturated fat impairs pancreatic beta cells function; the...
