I was in the wrong and I don't care.

Yell back, "it runs on clean air" and go about your business. I'd drop a hint at the restaurant that I would buy my food elsewhere based on their virtue signaling.

Powerstroke 6.7L oil drain-back concern; filter?

I'm betting Dave's engine stand turns far less than 1800 RPM, so not all "seconds" before oil are created equally.

Latest budget makes interest on American made cars fully deductible.

Agreed. $10k of interest at 6% means one has $150k in auto loans. Granted, lots of people are really bad with money. But if you're so bad with money that you have $150k in auto loans that you were going to have anyway, I'm not sure how much $3k in tax reduction (assumes 30% total fed + state...

Latest budget makes interest on American made cars fully deductible.

True. Lots of people might make a tweet about it.

Powerstroke 6.7L oil drain-back concern; filter?

Cummins 5.9/6.7 engines don't have have drain back valves in the filter nor in the block. If you do an oil change after sitting long enough, the filter can is only 2/3 fill because the oil drains back when parked until air breaks the suction across the top of the filter element. I always...

Latest budget makes interest on American made cars fully deductible.

This is why SS and Medicare tax are such a government scheme. The dumb american only thinks they cost 6.2%/1.45% of their income for their entire lives and in the end, they get something out of it. Actually, it costs twice that and what you get out of it isn't nearly worth 12.4%/2.9%. The...

Tractor Supply Co: Oil on sale to decent prices + 10% off pickup discount

Or you could just go to the store and ask them to price match the walmart price on your motor oil, dog food, etc. Or you could also use your TSC card to get an additional 5% in rewards back. It's a present promotion.

    Buying a new String Trimmer

My newly acquired consumer grade Husqvarna 330ikl doesn't seem to mind 0.095 square string. I hesitated on stepping up to the 520/530 heads. That said, I'm usually running the larger Bli300 batteries in it if I'm edging or tackling overgrowth.

2009 Camry 2AZ-FE with 90k miles was flushed with green coolant

Agreed, I never had issue with dexcool but I don't ask my coolants to go longer than 5 years. It's a small price to pay for the DIYer. Upside of the pink crust is that you'll visibly know when an OE 2GR water pump has let go. I just figure if the toyota came with pink and I'm not flushing...

2009 Camry 2AZ-FE with 90k miles was flushed with green coolant

Ultimately, the army's test seemed mostly concerned with cross compatibility (including things like seawater) and less of an emphasis on long term corrosion resistance, sludge formation, etc. For detail oriented home mechanics (such as BITOGers) that can be bothered to keep a bottle or two of...

2009 Camry 2AZ-FE with 90k miles was flushed with green coolant

I thought TPink involved sebecate, which was the special ingredient that makes it different from other non-2EHA OATs. In any case, I'd drain the system, break coolant hoses where I can, and use compressed air to remove as much mystery coolant as I could. Optionally, I'd do a flush cycle with...

Shame that Mazda3 owners can't be bothered to buy two cans of fluid film each fall.

3/4 Ton Gas vs Diesel vs Tundra

I can remember riding my bicycle around the Netherlands and seeing VW golfs with two horse trailers behind them. When the countryside is relatively flat and speed is reasonable, I guess you can do things differently.

Which oil would you choose? Seeing specs only

I don't disagree...as long as I'm not doing something silly in terms of cold starting or chemistry (which includes SAPS considerations for DPF.) It's just silly to insist that viscosity is the only thing that matters if clearly there are other factors that matter too. Two of my three vehicles...

Which oil would you choose? Seeing specs only

If we think every vehicle for which the manual specifies anything less (numerically) than 15w-40 is going to die a premature death, and thus decide to worship at the altar of maximum HTHS for all the things, we are headed down the path of ignorance. Last I checked, light duty truck diesels are...

Which oil would you choose? Seeing specs only

If HTHS doesn't protect the engine from heat, and HTHS doesn't protect the oil from heat, I can't imagine what we imagine it's doing. FWIW, the dexos spec specifies HTHS. Grades don't.

Which oil would you choose? Seeing specs only

I would use the grade/HTHS (and more importantly, ratings) that is/are appropriate for the machine. As I do for my diesel and passenger cars. And you're going to have to school me on how HTHS protects against heat. As far as I'm concerned, HTHS doesn't measure the ability of the oil to carry...

Which oil would you choose? Seeing specs only

10 to 20% All these years, I thought the grade was a rough representation of viscosity. Turns out it's a protection factor. 40 grade has twice as much "protection" as a 20. Learn something new on BITOG every day. What are we protecting against?

3/4 Ton Gas vs Diesel vs Tundra

Ours seems happy >>Tundra space. I wouldn't say it's just on paper. "Half ton" series camper, 8700# empty with 1250 tongue. Weekend trips, 9900# with 1700 tongue. But the smarter life choice would've been to get an older 5.7 tundra and find an appropriate camper. #notmydailydriver
