Yeah, Toyota's aren't too picky for PS fluid...I use(s) Mobil ATF in my 4runner with no issues. It's the Hondas you have to be careful of...they have their own spec'd fluid...
That might work for you, but the OP is not you and probably doesn't have your skill/experience set. Throw someone in the lake and they may learn to swim or they might just drown...
Just a comment on not being able to erase the codes...there are different types of codes (google it)...regular, pending, permanent, etc.
What you have is probably the permanent kind that can not be erased by a (low end) scanner or by unplugging the battery. They either have to clear themselves...
Gasket or RTV...hmmm...either is good. It depends on how much working room you have and your manual dexterity...if you are not careful with RTV, it can get messy fairly quick...almost like anti-seize.

Yep, have these on my 4Runner...they are quiet, but not as aggressive as some other 'all terrains'. For mostly on road use with the occasional dirt trail...they are just fine. Pretty decent in light snow, but I have full time 4wd.
I believe the vehicles made overseas get the Panasonic batteries which are fantastic...from personal experience and heard from others. The one I had in my 2005 4Runner lasted just over 9 years. Too bad we can't get those in the states.
