Neighbors rolled the dice on a manufacturer buyback vehicle... and lost.

So many "GM" and "lemon" comments in this thread. Doesn't make sense. The vehicle has had one simple problem. One. It happens. Not a lemon, not a widespread issue, nothing to do with General Motors. If this vehicle was in the shop this much for multiple, unrelated issues, a vehicle where the...

Cleaning a Cast Iron Deck prior to HG Replacement

No matter what method you use, some level of caution is required. My preferred method on iron is wire wheel.

Rental Review - 2024 Ford Expedition XLT

My thoughts exactly. Overall, this Expedition looks and feels 10-15 years old. As Nissan has taught us with the Armada, that's a problem at this price point.

Cant we invent carburetors that atomize fuel as good as fuel injectors by now?

TBI eliminated none of that. There were adjustments to be made in both systems. TBI was still a function of the venturi, just like a carb. The injectors were above the throttle plates. BUT TBI made the adjustments automatic. All did was eliminate throttle plate (idle speed) and mixture screws...

Cant we invent carburetors that atomize fuel as good as fuel injectors by now?

Carburetors atomize fuel VERY well, and even have an advantage in that the fuel/air mix moving through the low pressure is cooled dramatically. On the dyno, a properly set up carb will actually outperform FI, even if barely. It's the difficulty in adaptability and maintaining precise control...

'17 Civic: Dealer says A/C Compressor, Condenser, & Evaporator are all leaking

If you don't like what they have to say, take a look for yourself or get a second opinion. Not really a big deal one way or the other.

What old half ton to seek out

Sure, maybe where you are at. A great example of how it varies by area. Not that it means much, but here's what the first hits on my area's marketplace bring up for each name: Scrolling down the list, there are about 6 GMT400's in the first 50 trucks. No squarebody. Not sure OP was looking...

What old half ton to seek out

If that's the benchmark, Ford would be the answer in my area. Even if fenders are flapping in the wind and boxe sides are missing, I see more 8th gen f150 driving around than squarebody Chevy or 1st Gen Ram. But that's not necessarily a reliable indicator. Vehicle popularity, sales volume...

What vehicles are your local police department purchasing now?

Seems there's always at least a pair of vehicles mostly selected. We've gone from: Crown Vics and Caprices to Crown Vics and Tahoes to Explorers and Tahoes to Chargers and Tahoes Around here, Tahoes have been the majority for years. I have a hunch that Tahoes will continue to lead for a long...

What causes sticking piston rings? And do diesel engines suffer from it?

low tension/low friction rings that don't ride the cylinder wall crosshatch enough to keep them rotating. As long as they rotate, there's no buildup in the grooves they don't stick.

    Opinions on F150’s

    It's just one example, but my '98 5.4 7700 had the 4R100. My 2003 5.4 "regular" F150 had the 4R70.

Would you buy a 2014 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor?

Exactly. The internal water pump isn't a Ford-only trait. Even the lowly GM Ecotech used an internal timing chain driven water pump decades ago. The poor serviceability is what makes Ford's implementation a concern where the other's aren't.

How come the 350 chevy is still made?

Swapped or otherwise, SBF or SBC, I'd walk faster past any Ford Ranger at a car show. Not every swapped vehicle is show worthy or needs to be seen. Furthermore, this is especially true in this day and age where you can buy prefabbed swap kits for anything and everything, and there's little...

Would you buy a 2014 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor?

I drive a 2017 NA 3.5 Explorer for work every day. It has 28k miles. It's been NEEDY due to corrosion related repairs. Multiple exhaust leaks, suspension and steering joints. Repairs have been expensive. Engine/trans have been untouched. It runs and drives well if you expect what it is: a...

How come the 350 chevy is still made?

So, after all of that, put a 350 in everything? Most displacement, most potential for the least money? Cheap swap kits for everything you can think of for someone who has a few bucks and can't fab anything? Not sure conclusions have been drawn outside of being afraid of not being able to get...

How come the 350 chevy is still made?

And if we start having these discussions, one just goes 350. We've come full circle. 302 vs 305 stock config is relatively the same performance, but no one cares about that.

How come the 350 chevy is still made?

I'm what way? Plenty of low compression, open chamber, small valve 302s from the same era that need the same help as the 305. At least you start with 50 more cubes and a still a infinite aftermarket support with a 350. Bonus: you get better transmission options along with it. Not saying that...

How come the 350 chevy is still made?

302 is too displacement challenged for the cost to build when you can get a 350 for the same pri...er, cheaper. Especially after the 400hp or so mark. 350 guys won't look at a 305 either. Why bother? I guess there's there's the 351, but it's far, far less available and affordable per *insert...
