Where do you place your floor jack on a 2wd truck?

Nice level, horizontal lower control arm. Id bridge it with a piece of lumber and jack it up right under that.

Can't say. Hard to see what's going on in the picture. What kind of truck?

    10-day review - 2025 Ford Bronco Sport

When these engines were more prevalent, oil pump gears shattering was a common discussion. Sure, they were fine in grandpas Town Car, but the engine was used throughout Ford's lineup and the problem was exposed under high performance applications. I don't hear any problems about the kevlar belt...

2015 Subaru 2.0 Head Gasket Failure at 136K Miles

A reputation takes a long time to establish. One as long-standing and well known as Subaru head gaskets doesn't go away quickly, even if improvements have been made. I'm sure they are very nice cars. The reputation was earned long ago.

2015 Subaru 2.0 Head Gasket Failure at 136K Miles

Why should the OP care about that?

06 Monte Carlo SS HVAC System

Is there some sort of "learning" procedure for them, so the PCM knows the limits of movement?

    6.0 vortec startup tick

I also suggest looking at manifold bolts. Even if the bolt heads are still there: one or two may be broken but simply have not fallen out yet. You might be surprised what you find if you try putting a wrench on them.

    High RPM to Remove Carbon

Oil consumption in the Northstar was a function of the industry-wide switch to low-tension piston rings in the late-80's/early '90's, and no manufacturer was immune to the problem. Even the beloved Honda and Toyota struggled with this during the time period. Not a Northstar-specific problem.

    Ford 5.4 3v 320k miles - bad rocker arm

Not uncommon on these. They are only this simple if they are caught early and the cam is spared. For most average drivers, that's not the case.

    High RPM to Remove Carbon

It seems that not many here have driven cars from before the days of overdrive :D

What tends to go bad first on an engine?

No hard facts, but if I had to gamble, I'd say valve guides. High heat, little lubrication. If not monitored, the valve seat and face gets beat up and then you get burned valves.

PSA: Ram Trucks, check your emergency roadside jack bolt.

My point is that, industry wide, it seems the whole spare tire setup is an afterthought and done as low bid as it can be. Cheeseball mounting equipment, tools, handles, jacks, etc. It's all garbage that is barely capable of getting the job done. Won't have to worry about it soon, as the whole...

PSA: Ram Trucks, check your emergency roadside jack bolt.

Can't get away from corrosion problems and spare tire equipment. Majority of trucks from any manufacturer, you eventually can't get the spare tire winch to work, making it stuck under the truck. Then it's time to cut it down and leave the spare in the bed. Of course, majority of people don't...

Replace CV axles based on mileage?

If the joints don't get contaminated from broken boots, CV shafts usually last the life of the vehicle. If you find that everything is OK, I wouldn't replace pre-emptively.

I just replaced thermostat and I think I'm having issues

This will happen if the AC isn't running and therefore the cooling fans aren't running. Without constant airflow through the rad, the system heats up until fans are tripped, system cools back down until fans turn off, rinse/repeat.

I just replaced thermostat and I think I'm having issues

Remember, the thermostat rating is the temperature at which the thermostat BEGINS to open. It's not the regulated temperature, which has more to do with the cooling system as a whole. It's typical for actual temperature to be about 20 degrees higher than thermostat rating.
