If something says it is good for limited slip differentials, do not put it in. I made that mistake with some 75W90 GL5/MT-1 oil and it made my syncros near useless. MTG made my syncros work okayish, but there is occasionally a grind going into 3rd.

If I have to buy a cheap oil, what would be recommended?

It is the oil. Before I changed the oil the box would shift like a dream, it would shift perfectly, I even had a few friends comment about how smooth the box would shift.

I have almost bought the Pennzoil synchromesh fluid twice in the past 2 days, but I'm taking the wait and see approach because I'm worried about the oil being too thin. Is there any evidence that it is safe to use the thinner fluid?

I have read on other forum that syncomesh gearboxes toast syncros with GL-5 gear oil, is this true?

Would I see any benefit from synthetic in this engine? I get 35 to the gallon on conventional 10W-30 and the engine burns no oil. Is it agreed that I should run 5W-30 year round to deal with starting wear?

I pulled the dipstick after 500 miles, it was right at the full mark. Would 0W-30 be a bad idea?

The gearbox is a bit touchy with the Valvoline, before the gear oil change it shifted smoother. It started to shift smooth again after I drove it for 250 miles at 65-70 Mph through a few mountains (the oil already had 3k on it before this,) but I still have to double clutch sometimes...
