    heat problem

This one seems a bit odd: While driving out in cold weather today, about 10degrees, after the temp. gauge got most of the way to normal, I turned on the heater fan with heat controls on max and the air coming out of vents was at most lukewarm, not really warm. This was a first; prior to this, it...

jeep security system question / problem

Hello, On a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I am having a problem with the battery getting drawn down when it is turned off, and seems to have something to do with a security system. Here's what happens: turn off the vehicle. go to start it the next morning, and doesn't have enough juice to start, and...

    slow warm-up

Got it as used car a few years back, and as far as I know its the original thermostat. Its always been a little cold blooded, but in a "normal" winter or other seasons don't usually notice it so much.

    slow warm-up

Basically, its driving along mostly w/o stops at from 35 to 65mph. I figure there must be quite a windchill factor on the radiator at highway speeds and low outside temperatures. Will try cardboard in front of radiator and watch the gauge; I did that years ago on a Ford Ranger 4X4, V-6 and it...

    slow warm-up

In this very cold winter, i.e. mornings about 5 above to about 5 to 10 below zero, the temperature gauge on my 2007 Dodge Caliber 2.0 engine takes about almost 20 miles to get up to its normal operating temperature, which is about one noth below midline. It warms up to that temperature a lot...

oil pan drain plug wrench size

Got the 13mm socket (6point) and got the job done today; conditions: 18 degrees and snowing, light wind - FUN !!! first oil change for me on this rig, and of course plug "a little tight," but got it out OK. (It was really much too tight.) I reinstalled it so I can get it out easily the next...

Thanks. I know the answer was "crawl under and find out," but now know what to go out and get before crawling under.

oil warning light and warning chimes at idle

Yes, the drained oil maybe appeared a little fuel diluted, with some "sheen" to it. The oil had about 5K on it; maybe a little too many miles on it for an engine with 205K miles. The engine runs very smooth, and with good power.

oil warning light and warning chimes at idle

Update: As it was needed anyway, today I changed the oil using 10W-30 conventional, and have driven 180 miles, both highway and stop and go, and there has been no oil warning light, nor warning chimes at all. I know this isn't a lot of miles, but so far, so good.

oil warning light and warning chimes at idle

Quite frankly, the oil could use a change at this time. The owners manual specifies 5W-30. I am using that weight in conventional oil. Will first try oil change going to 10W-30 and see if that changes anything, as that seems the simplest advice.

oil warning light and warning chimes at idle

Lately, the oil warning light and warning chimes have come on at engine idle (like when stopping at a red light). They go out as soon as rpm's climb past idle. The vehicle is a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 3.3liter V-6 engine with 205K miles. I know the mileage is high, but oil use is...

Marvel Mystery Oil vs. 3 in 1 oil

Hi, Couldn't find better place on the forum to ask this, so here it is: For general lube use, where you would use 3 in 1 oil, how does MMO compare? For instance, two general examples: oiling pump up on Coleman lantern and stoves; or lubing door hinges.

    headlight problem

Have a headlight on a 2007 Dodge Caliber that was out on low beam, worked on high. Changed the bulb (can't say it was much fun with the ridiculous tight quarters to work) and same thing, still no low beam, but OK on highbeam with the new bulb. Any ideas as to what else to check as to what might...

    Amsoil Saber Professional 2 cycle

Thats good to know, I like to see a tint in the fuel just to be sure, even though I put a tag on every fuel container, whether straight gasoline or mixed with 2 cycle oil. Like the look of it, anyway.

    Amsoil Saber Professional 2 cycle

I just got some of this stuff, but haven't used it yet, or even opened it. Question: Is this oil dyed, so it shows colored fuel when mixed?

    intermittant gauges on chrysler minivan

The dashboard gauges (all) go on and off intermittantly, with no conditons or reasons I can associate with it. Also, when they come on, the auto door lock will lock, but not when the gauges are out. This is on a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager minivan. The gauges are not out all the time, but a lot...

    changing spark plugs

Mine is the 3.3 liter (great engine, by the way)., with front alternator. Maybe from whats said here, it won't be too bad. Did it once in a Chev. Celebrity V-6, also with a transverse engine, of course working blind changing the 3 rear facing plugs. Hoping the minivan plug change won't be any worse.

    1958 235 chevy

Great car and engine you have. When I had a '57 Chevy Bel-Air with this engine in the 70's, I used 10W-30 (detergent), with occasional 10W-40 use. The car went over 150K before rusting out. The engine had been rebuilt once, and was still good.
