Check the runout on new brake rotors?

How do you measure the drums to check if they are out of round? All the demonstrations I've seen are for rotor discs.

Check the runout on new brake rotors?

I watched a video demonstrating how to check the runout with a dial meter. Unexpectedly, the runout was measured out of range for a brand new replacement rotor! It wasn't a problem with the hub surface the rotor mates to, but the rotor itself. They returned it as defective. I suspect that most...

Air in ABS Brake System - impact on normal braking?

Air in ABS Brake System - impact on normal braking?

Some drivers report a soft brake pedal and suspect the cause is air in their ABS (after they've done a standard bleed on all calipers). For most ABS systems, I understand the ABS remains in a passive/off mode during normal driving and only activates when it senses an extreme imbalance in wheel...

    Caliper piston boot

For the piston boot, use pure Silicone spray. It will condition the boot like you want it to, but it won't gum up and attract dirt like conventional grease/lube.

    Automated ABS brake system bleed

I'd like to confirm my understanding of the bleed process when you have a scanner that supports ABS Automated Bleed. Step 1: Bleed the brakes in the standard manner (whichever method you choose). Step 2: Use the ABS Automated Bleed feature in your scanner to cycle the ABS. The pump action will...

Do you "correct" your service technician or not?

AAA used to offer a multi-point inspection service to members in my area that took about an hour to complete and cost an hour of labor (approx $110 if I recall). They provided a written report of findings and the tech explained them to you with focus on anything they thought needed attention...

OEM parts... what does it mean to you?

I won't even dare to ask what a "Genuine" part means.

    Bottle jack as jack stand?

You can buy a jack pad to expand a bottle jack's small saddle to something larger. Here are several examples: https://bottlejackbuddy.net/ https://safejacks.com/products/flat-pad-for-bottle-jacks https://safejacks.com/products/axle-tube-pad-for-bottle-jack...
