Rotella 15W-40 CJ-4 and JASO MA Requirements

Actually it happens quite often. I worked there for over 20 years. If Shell says nothing, they will continue to sell truck oil for motorcycles. If they say it will not meet JASO, they probably wouldn't sell much.

    Rotella T 15w40 CJ4 4500 miles 07 Harley XL883

I'd dump it now and get an analysis. You're flying blind at this point, unless you know of another Goldwing that has done this with an analysis.

Diff oil options, make it quiet

Since your differential specs a 75W90, you could try a 75W110 synthetic (which under the old standards would be considered a "heavy" 75W90)and see what happens. I think a 75W140 would go against the manufacturers recomendations, decrease fuel mileage and not work as well in those Central Ontario...

    New QS Horsepower advert

No surprise here. Shell pays Ferrari alot of money for corporate sponsorships in racing and to recommend Shell products in their cars. Shell is not known for their car oils and loses market share every year as far as I know. Quaker State is owned by Shell and has a better reputation and larger...

Car runs smooth after 2 syn OCI's

A lot of my synthetic oil customers tell me the same thing. Some have told me their wives asked them what they did to their car as it runs better. "Just an oil change". I'm always amazed, but no longer suprised.

Rotella 15W-40 CJ-4 and JASO MA Requirements

As a retired Shell employee, I doubt any of the Rotella products meet JASO MA. I worked at the Shell Westhollow Technology Center in Houston where Shell US does their oil formualting, testing and development and know they could easily run the tests on site (and probably have) to determine if it...

Rotella 15W-40 CJ-4 and JASO MA Requirements

You can use SM for applications calling for SL in most cars (some disagreement for flat tappet cams), but not necessarily for motorcycles. I have yet to see even in 2008 new model motorcycles or motorcycle oil manufacturers even mentioning SM or CJ4. They do specify the older oil service...

Rotella 15W-40 CJ-4 and JASO MA Requirements

I notice the Honda motorcycle oils only list API SJ and JASO MA. Amsoil has come out with a low cost synthetic oil recommended for motorcycles called 10W40 Synthetic Scooter Oil (ASO). From the Amsoil site: "ASO will perform satisfactorily in motorcycle applications. In fact, the level of...

Rotella 15W-40 CJ-4 and JASO MA Requirements

TucsonDon, Check with Honda to see if they have revised their 10W40 preference to 10W30 like they recommend for the 2008 GoldWing. This gives the Wing more performance (I used to blow by them in top speed runs with my 2006 K1200LT. Now they run pretty even). Plus it should improve your mpg...

Rotella 15W-40 CJ-4 and JASO MA Requirements

I don't know of any motorcycle JASO MA oil that is API SM. I don't know of any motorycycle manufacturer that says API SM is recommended. They tend to use and recommend the much earlier API SG and SH formulations that are obsolete for cars but preferred for motorcycles because of higher zinc and...

    Amsoil EAO13 question

I'd suggest getting the Amsoil 0W20 15,000 severe/1 year oil and the EaO13. Then at 6 months do a UOA. Then change both out at a year. Amsoil ships everything by UPS. I am also from Houston and usually get my order in 2 days from the Dallas warehouse. I've never gotten anything shrink wrapped...

Is Amsoil business structure similiar to Amway??

I wouldnt like the 4 ball wear test if that was the only test and it was a non ASTM lubricant method. But since it is only one of many test results that Amsoil uses against other named oils, I would rather have it than not have it and make my own conclusions. I find the results interesting and...

    Viscosity. I need help.

Did you notice any differences in the way your car runs with the same brand different viscosity oils? Fuel mileage, cold start noises, etc?

    Viscosity. I need help.

Leebae, Amsoil gets their vehicle recommendations from a 3rd party. Those recommendations are listed in black type. Then Amsoil evaluates it and decides which of the Amsoil products are the best recomendations and that they will warranty. Those recommendations are in the blue type with product...

    Viscosity. I need help.

Pablo is right. Just look how long it took Ford to back recommend 5W20 for their cars that they recommended 5W30 for.

    Viscosity. I need help.

If it helps you sleep any better, Amsoil recommends their 0W30 for both those applications.

From the Mobil 1 website: What is the difference between Mobil 1® Extended Performance and Mobil 1? Mobil 1 Extended Performance formulas are designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year. Mobil 1 Extended...

    M1 full syn vs. M1 EP...is there a difference

Yes. Warranty for 1. Mobil 1 is not warranted for extended oil change intervals. Mobil 1 EP is up to 15,000 normal miles if your car is out of warranty. Otherwise for both oils they suggest to follow your owners manual.

Amsoil SVG as a cleaning agent

Actually they have an online guide on how to read UOA's. Unfortunately it was pulled from my above posting.
