It costs alot more for labor on the extra 98 oil changes. Figure at least $10 labor per change = $980 more dollars on the conventional. If it cost him an hour of lost productivity and he only made $10 an hour, another $980. Plus if he drove this much for some type of business, the Commercial...

    Amsoil ATF

I found this info at http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/maintain/answer.php?automatic_transmission1.html . "As a rule of thumb, every 20 degree increase in operating temperature above 175 degrees F. cuts the life of the fluid in half! At 195 degrees F., for instance, fluid life is reduced to 50,000...

I think just as many people are as interested in the 900,000 mile transmission. I think transmissions fail more often than engines.

    bypass filter skewing oil analysis

It seems particle size analysis is useful in predicting engine wear. Seems like this should be done along with quantitative/qualitative analysis of the metals to be more useful. How much more does a particle size analysis add to the price of an oil analysis?

    bypass filter skewing oil analysis

According to this paper http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3981584.html , bypass filtration could skew the results. Anybody know if oil samples are filtered before wear metals are analyzed, and if so, the particle size analyzed? Lots of people see metal particles on their full flow filters when...

    bypass filter skewing oil analysis

If the wear metals are large enough to be captured by a bypass filter, I'd rather have them out of the oil. Not sure this is the case though.

    A good read on oil

Pretty good. Especially for those using or considering using an API SM, CJ4 or non-JASO oil in their motorcycles. "You should always use a motorcycle oil in a motorcycle, especially one that meets the required specification, such as the JASO-MA or MB and others, since the motor oil has in most...

Ninja 500, Amsoil MCF oil and EAO filter

To keep the Amsoil warranty, I'd suggest a used oil analysis at 6K. It will likely tell you to extend to 10K. I personally go 12K on my BMW K1200LT.

Ninja 500, Amsoil MCF oil and EAO filter

I have lots of Gold Wing customers running this same combination. They take it 16,000 miles or once a year whichever happens first. What does Kawasaki recommend for an oil change interval? Double it with Amsoil and their free warranty.

over 900,000 miles on 99 chev van

Your numbers are incorrect. You are changing one of your Amsoil changes at only 7500 miles each year and included the cost of 2 Amsoil filters for that short interval. Amsoil Preferred Customer cost for 8 years is $120 when you sign up for 10 years. 910,000 miles divided by 35,000 mile OCI =...
