Any leaks if I stop using synthetic high mileage oil?

Any leaks if I stop using synthetic high mileage oil?

Been using Royal Purple HMX 5w-30 in a Toyota 3.4 V6 and a Chevy 5.7 LS1. Both have just over 130k miles. The 3.4 doesn't leak any oil, but the LS1 only seeps from the timing cover. Both engines are extremely clean with almost no varnish on the heads, and don't consume oil. Will both these...

    Oil in hot temps

Use a good synthetic that is of your vehicle's needed viscosity. I keep 5w-20 going in the HEMI here in Arizona, even when driving up mountains. Oil pressure is still there within spec, and it runs smooth.

    A New One on Me

Only thing I can think of is screwing it on a bit tighter, or a defect. It's best to just replace it like in your case. Unrelated, but I had a Wix XP with a bad ADBV. Oil drained from the filter after shutting the engine off, causing a few dry cold starts nearing the end of my OCI. I cut it...

9688 the one size fits all for asian cars?

The Nissan 5.6 V8 uses those microscopic filters and they never blow up because of it. Just look for those filters than can last 10,000 miles and have a thicker shell.

    Anti-Foaming / Anti-Aeration Additives

Group 4 PAO oil and some group 5 esters are naturally harder to foam up compared to group 3 and less oils. More and more oils are using a blend of group 3, 4 and 5 base oils, so less anti-foaming additives are used. There are also acrylate copolymers.

Cheap Synthetic (supertech) vs big brand conventional, your pick?

Latest PQIA test of Supertech synthetic shows 11.7 in volatility, but a good cold cranking viscosity. It's worth it in the winter over conventional. http://pqiadata.org/SuperTech_5W20.html

PARTS PLUS PH 500 CUT OPEN

My Kia shop uses this brand for the non Kia/Hyundai vehicles that come in. Very well made. Only time I ever seen one of these filters go bad was when a Suzuki came in for an oil change, and it had the wrong size filter on it for some reason (too small). The top of the filter was inflating into a...

    Thoughts on PUP 5W20?

Has a very low NOACK/evaporation rate like Amsoil Signature Series. Makes it great for reducing deposits because evaporated oil consumed through the PCV over time is reduced. Keeps direct injection engines' intakes and intake valves cleaner. Can be a great oil to use in port injection engines if...

Which Synthetic Oil Do You Use, And Why?

Royal Purple HMX 5w-30. Tons of detergent keeps my engines incredibly clean, and they run like new. I like that it's API SL, so it has more ZDDP and moly. It's borderline a 5w-40 too.

Would you say HM oils have stronger Add packs than regular oils?

Yep, especially those that are API SL. More ZDDP, more detergent, and the viscosity is on the thicker side of its viscosity rating. For example, Royal Purple HMX 5w-30 is borderline a 5w-40, possibly 10w-40. There is a VOA of it here in BITOG, but from 2017.

Top three based on known specs.

The absolute best is what you think should be in your engine. It's so subjective and there are countless variables. Normal, well maintained vehicles that get driven daily and far enough to get the engine oil very hot can use any over-the-counter name-brand synthetic with great results. Anything...

Do You Still Change Your Oil at 3K?

I did 3k synthetic oil changes a few times after I bought a used LS1 Corvette. Ended up cleaning the engine so well that I can't even see a gold tinge of varnish under the oil fill cap. Now I'm doing 5k. A bit soon, but I drive that Corvette hard. I do 7.5k with my 3.4 Tacoma.

Intake Bolts - Antiseize or not?

I only use anti-seize on threads that are susceptible to rust or extreme heat, like exhaust studs, lugnut studs, and suspension/steering related ends, nuts and bolts. Intakes and anything that bolts to it must not be overtorqued or cross-threaded.

First oil change in the New Truck

Dexos qualifies 5w30 as energy conserving compared to 10w30. It's only thicker during cold starts when engines run rich anyway. No energy is saved in that situation lol.

    Light Noise when cold start?

Kia Cadenza with a 3.3 V6? Those V6 engines are always noisy when started. Kia actually had to move the cartridge oil filter to the bottom of the engine to stop most of the cold start noise for 2018 and up engines. It was MUCH worse on the older 3.3 with the oil filter on top because the oil...

5W20 walmart Full Syn bad smell

So at my Kia dealer shop we use Valvoline bulk oils. The cheap synthetic blend oil kinda has a smokey smell to it, and the full synthetic oil has a sulfur kinda smell to it. It's part of the additive pack. Royal Purple oil has the same smell if that matters lol.

Switch to quacker state 5w 20

You can try a high mileage oil since they are jam-packed with detergent. Only problem is that you can't stop using high mileage oil due to their gasket swelling additives, and I don't know if any are Chrysler certified. I know Royal Purple API SN oil is Chrysler certified and has loads of...
