    New tool thread

@Hootbro I am in a similar situation as you. The local pawn chain (aptly named D--k's) has prices at or above retail for most things (e.g., used Dewalt 1/4 impact $125 for tool only...W.T.F!). In fact I can usually get a better price for brand new stuff if I wait for sales at HD or Lowes...and...

    Simplifying my oil changing routine

Some cars are definitely problematic for the mityvac. I planned to use it on the neighbor's Trans Am but quickly found that the dipstick was about 25 feet long (slight exaggeration, but you get the point)!

    Simplifying my oil changing routine

Perhaps now would be a good time to relocate the filter, while you are still able! :) Add a mity vac and you will never need to crawl under the car.

    Post your latest oil change

Before I start, I check the oil and estimate how much is in the sump. Next I measure the length of the dipstick and insert that amount, then add an inch or two. When it starts sucking air I push a little further, pull; repeat until it doesn't get any more oil. On a related note, I change the...

    AC Delco Oil Filter

That's too bad. I suspect the othe ACDelco 12 pks on Amazon are also fake ads. I therefore canceled my order for a 12 pk of PF2129GF (the fleet pack of PF2129G) listed for $10.40. It's not worth the hassle.

    Fram Oil Filter

^this Only the cartridge filters let you change the "paper" only. And I've never heard anyone call the Fram textured coating "Rhino Grip." Isn't that the stuff they spray in truck beds?

Got a bunch of oil cheap. Which is best of these 2?

Definitely mix them! Otherwise your engine will explode when you run the lesser of the two. :) Seriously though, I've run both of them separately and mixed together, mixed with other brands, mixed with different viscosities, etc. You and your engine will never know the difference. Great score...

    Post your last tire/wheel purchase

Set of four Goodyear Weatherready 205/55-16 for the Toyota Matrix. Great deal at 138/tire at Discount Tire, minus $80 special minus $100 rebate! Oh I almost forgot. Minus another 5% for using the DT credit card. Altogether the net cost was about $491 all included.

    New tool thread

I concur that these batteries were not very good, at least by today's standards. This was one of the first attempts to produce varuous tools that shared the same battery, so hats off to Craftsman! I bought the 19.2V drill, impact, and leaf blower, each with a battery/charger, sometime around...

    Females and time

I can relate! If I have an appt at 6.30, I leave the house at 6.15 to allow time to get there. She, on the other hand, leaves the house at 6.30. 🥺

Causes of 1 of 4 brake pads (on an axle) wearing thin faster than the other 3?

Do the pad ears slide easily in the brackets? If one of them is rusted or stuck, the opposite pad will wear faster.

Road trip with 4k miles on oil already

Lol My comment was meant as a dig at Iffy Lube! That they would make a safe return less likely. He really doesn't need to change oil during the trip, and can probably wait a few 1000 miles after he returns.

Road trip with 4k miles on oil already

I'm sure he would like to make it back home before the car blows up...a mid-trip stop at Iffy Lube would make this less likely!

Filter change every other oil change - anyone doing it?

Filter change every other oil change - anyone doing it?

I usually buy the best filter I can find on sale for $3 or less. Usually these are rated for 5-10k miles (Supertech, Ecogard, Fram PH, etc) so they get changed every time. But if I happen to get one rated for 15k miles or more it rides for two OCIs. A Tough Guard definitely goes for two OCIs!

How can I heat my tool boxes affordably?

Couldn't the same be said about leaving something electrical on in an uninhabited house, if even for a few hours (e.g., appliances, fans, etc.)? If the house catches fire, you have bigger problems than losing the tools. Of course, storing gas cans or other flammables near electrical items is...

    Good ratcheting screwdriver?

+1 for Vessel. Their screwdrivers, ratcheting or not, are the best I have used.
