I used an ACEA C3 oil in an A1/B1 application

OK thanks all, I was just concerned that the C3 spec might be specific for diesels only. Thanks again.

I used an ACEA C3 oil in an A1/B1 application

My Toyota has a 1NZ-FE engine. Previously, I have read on here to use A1/B1 or A3/B3 oils in this engine - which was good advice that I followed. Last month, whilst on autopilot, I trusted the parts store catalogue which recommended a Shell ACEA C3 oil for my vehicle. I think this is for...

Ethylene Glycol: To OAT or non-OAT?

Thanks for all the replies. I think coolant shopping is definitely difficult, more difficult than oil shopping at least. And because coolant tends to stay in there for a few years, I feel like it's important to avoid getting it wrong. The colours are a nightmare but I wasn't relying on that...

Ethylene Glycol: To OAT or non-OAT?

Thanks for the reply. I don't think the blue one is HOAT because HOAT is fairly new and they've been selling this exactly blue one for several years and it's the cheapest one with a lifespan of only 2 years. I think HOAT is the more expensive purple one in their line up.

Ethylene Glycol: To OAT or non-OAT?

HoosierJeeper I'm not sure if that's true, I think there exists OAT and non-OAT Ethylene Glycol based coolants. I have seen information about the compatibility of OAT and HOAT which agrees with what you say, but at this point, I'm trying to determine whether to use plain Ethylene Glycol or OAT.

Ethylene Glycol: To OAT or non-OAT?

Hello all, I have a bit of a backstory so I will put the tldr short version here: If OEM calls for an OAT (Organic Acid Technology) Ethylene Glycol coolant, and I use a plain Ethylene Glycol one, will I cause problems with the engine/radiator? Kinda long backstory: I recently bought a 2012...

    Understanding TSBs regarding oil (Yaris)

I can find 5W20 or 0W20 easier than 10W30. Eurocarparts or Halfords don't have any mention of 10W30.

    Understanding TSBs regarding oil (Yaris)

Well the handbook says 5w30 is only good for climates up to 10 deg C.

    Understanding TSBs regarding oil (Yaris)

Why isn't the TSB applicable? The handbook wants a viscosity that is impossible to find other than from Toyota and the TSB isn't appropriate? Might end up just going for 5w30 even though its not appropriate for the temperature according to handbook. Edit: The TSB is for my engine but not my...

    Understanding TSBs regarding oil (Yaris)

OK thanks for the advice. I'm looking at Gulf Ultrasynth X 5W-20 which is ILSAC GF-5, would this be suitable as its rated higher than GF-4?

    Understanding TSBs regarding oil (Yaris)

Hi all, I posted on here a while ago regarding an oil recommendation for a 2000 Yaris with the 2NZ-FE engine and got some great information. (concluded to stick with 5w30 as stated in the handbook) Since then, I've bought another Yaris, this time with the 1NZ-FE engine and noticed the oil...

Thanks for all the advice. I've ordered some Shell Helix HX7 Professional AF 5w30.

Oil recommendation for high mileage Yaris/Vitz

It is my understanding that in xxWyy ratings, the xx refers to the viscosity when cold and yy at operating temperature. The larger the numbers the more viscose the oil is at a given temperature. I believe that is measured by measuring the rate of flow. (I remember calculating the rate of flow of...

Oil recommendation for high mileage Yaris/Vitz

Its the 1.3 The 1.5 is the 1NZ-FE, mine is the 2NZ-FE. Same engines just different displacement/stroke I think. Parts/oils are mostly interchangable. I've just noticed that the places I buy car parts from don't have 10w30! It seems to be quite rare even online.

Oil recommendation for high mileage Yaris/Vitz

It depends because I travel about 80 miles on the highway to university where I stay during most weeks but whilst I'm there or back at home I only drive around 5 - 20 miles in a single trip. Sometimes the car sits for up to 2 weeks.

Oil recommendation for high mileage Yaris/Vitz

Greetings from England! I bought a 2000 Yaris with 163k miles exactly one year ago this week. It has service history from Toyota and other local garages. I changed the oil using semi synthetic 5w30 last year and 5,000 miles/1 year later I think I should've used a 10w30 being that it is a high...
