Mine is quite noisy when cold. It sounds like a diesel till it completely warms up. It used to be a winter condition, but now its all year long. Its interesting, I read elsewhere that synthetic oil usually made the sound worse.

Well, it was sampled about a month ago. I guess they might have changed suppliers since then. Otherwise, there are 3 possibilities.... 1. The sample was not my oil after all. The dealer pulled a switcheroo. 2. The service manager doesn't know what he's talking about. 3. That moly is not an...

I just called my Toyota Service Manager. He said their 5W30 bulk oil is provided by Castrol. According to the PQIA link... http://www.pqiamerica.com/castrollabelrevnew.htm ... my oil should have a moly level of <1 ppm. Instead I have a moly reading of 160 ppm. Any suggestions??

92 Corolla LE 1.6 liter jerks when shifts

My friend has a 95 Corolla. He googled a similar problem and found a recall in the works. They are replacing ECMs in vehicles with hard shifting. Maybe it applies to your 92?

umDummy...Been there, done that. After a year of Toyota techs and service managers saying "its normal, they all do that", they finally decided its piston slap. From other forums, it seems like the vvt-i clatter is a constant. It doesn't go away after the engine warms up. Besides, wouldn't that...

I'm still curious. At my next oil change I'll try to find out what oil they use. I may skip an oil analysis at 25K. Instead, I hope to get a sample for a VOA to compare with the next UOA at 30K miles.

The dealer took the sample. I hope he didn't switch samples to keep me happy. I need to take the next sample myself. Also, the Blackstone site also mentioned some piston rings use a moly coating.

I have an '08 Sienna with about 20K miles. I've been experiencing piston-slap for the last 10K or so, but Toyota says its normal. I finally decided to get an oil analysis to determine if any internal damage is ocurring. I'm particularly concerned about the twice normal moly reading.... 160 vs...
