Heated Garages in Cold Climates and Mitigating Corrosion?

Park outside. Warmer temps and moisture in the air create an environment that will accelerate corrosion. I only park inside if the vehicles are clean or after I can spray them with salt away underneath. Fluid film in the fall - I have a 3' piece of tubing with a 360deg head on it I use to shove...

Nitto Recon Grapplers on the JLU

Very quiet actually. I'd say a little louder than my wife's X3, but not bad at all. Quieter than most of the non luxury rental cars I get, I had a Terrain last year that was so loud I did a dB comparison between it and the wrangler, it was like 78dB and the Wrangler was like 70dB going the same...

Nitto Recon Grapplers on the JLU

    I think like 55 or 60k. Not sure, didn't look, wasn't a factor lol.

Nitto Recon Grapplers on the JLU

Got my new tires on the JLU - went with the Nitto Recon Grapplers. Wanted a lightweight tire (these only weigh 52 lbs each for a 35" tire (well, 34.3" versus 34.5" so less than 1/4" difference, whereas most others were load range C or E and weighed well over 60 lbs). Have always had good luck...

Will flushing rocker panels cause more rust?

I agree. My wrangler frame has some factory holes in it, and you can watch the FF displace the water when you spray the FF in. After you have a layer of FF in, the water just floats on top it seems like.

What is the rarest or strangest, unusual engine you have owned?

Same engine in the Disco my parents have. Doesn't have the sound of the 4.4 in the LR3, but goes good enough. Funny thing too is the 3.7 in the Liberty is the same thing - V8 made into a V6.

2021 Wrangler Sahara 4xe- One year in...

I love my JLU Sahara. No issues driving it on cross country road trips to wheel! I don't think any other vehicle sold new today offers the same off road performance that is still nice to drive on road. Yeah, Defenders, Discos, RRs, maybe a 4runner or Land Cruiser can wheel, but don't hold a...

Best lightweight 35s for 18 in rims

Looking for the best "light weight" 35 (or close) AT tire for my stock JL Sahara rims. Looking to avoid anything load range D or E. So far it looks like two options: 295/70/18 Nitto Recon Grappler - love the looks, and the lightest one I can find (52.5 lbs), comes in at 34.4" diameter, so...

    Thoughts on Buyback Vehicle

I would look at what one goes for at 6-7 years old and see if you can find a lemon lawed one and see what they go for at that point. Using my Cherokee example, I got about a $15k discount, so about 40% off of MSRP, but the trade in value was only 20% of what a normal one would've been. Lost...

    Thoughts on Buyback Vehicle

I've bought 2 buy back vehicles. A 2015 Cherokee (lemon lawed in NY) and a 2019 Jetta (lemon lawed in MD or VA, can't remember), both bought with under 5k miles and a year old, Cherokee was $23k (new MSRP was $38k), Jetta was $19k, new MSRP was like $26k). Cherokee had to get the tranny replaced...

bought some 22s and new A/T tires

Looks great! I've had 3 sets of the Toyo Open Country ATIIIs. Awesome in the snow. Great off road too and stay very quiet. Only downside is they don't make a 35 for an 18 inch rim in a SL load rating, so I'll have to go back to Nittos for the Wrangler on the next set. Will miss the Toyos for sure!

    Pennzoil 0w-20 Full Synthetic

I was running Pennzoil Platinum High mileage 0w20 in mine since I got it, but couldn't find it for my latest OCI. So I did valvoline Extended Protection high mileage 0w20....and it still runs/drives. LOL. Don't over think it. Enjoy the Jeep and get it off road!

    2025 Compass - rental review

I've probably had 10 of this generation (2017.5-2024) as rentals/loaners. The new interior is much improved. The 2.0 is nice too. Good to see actual ATs on the TH. I used to have a Renegade TH, it would do amazing off road (for what it is) till it got wet. I went through 3 PTUs in 27k and then...

    Help - torn coil boot

Thanks! Ended up buying that exact one and buttoning it back up. The spark plug I pulled looked excellent electrode and gap wise, so I can probably wait a bit. Needed to get it back to drivable quick.

    Help - torn coil boot

Started doing a plug change on my 3.6 wrangler and the first coil boot tore when I pulled it out. Is it still useable or should I get a new coil? Afraid to try pulling the other ones after this happened, first time I've ever seen this happen.

2010 Dodge Journey - Which Engine?

x2. After owning a few of the front wheel drive based Jeeps (Cherokee and Renegade), I wouldn't touch another. Clearly made to a different standard than anything RWD based. Never had anything major go wrong with the "real" Mopars and always love the way they drive.

2010 Dodge Journey - Which Engine?

I'd skip the Journey. I'd look at a Grand Cherokee personally. Much nicer vehicle and better off road. Should be able to get a 3.6 WK2 one in that price range I'd think.
