Valvoline says it's good to use from day one of a new motor. Those motors are well known for ring deposits and using oil from those deposits. Why wait until they're stuck? I would use it as a preventative but you do you. It's not Dexos approved, though but that doesn't matter w/Hyundai-Kia.

I would continuously use Valvoline 5W-30 Restore and change it every 3,000-3,500 Max miles.

There are some applications where you can't replace U-joints (looking at you 2008 Jeep Liberty); new drive shaft is required.

Keep in mind that a bad battery can unalive an alternator. It would be best to have the alternator checked or just replace it if it's old.

For your Malibu, I would only use the Dexos spec that's approved for the car because of LSPI.

Where are you located and how many miles are on the car? FWIW I've known two people with modern Malibus and they seem to be decent cars. Maintenance is very important with any CVT, though. I would get it done every 25,000 miles.

You must have got a bad transmission. I had a 2018 GT Premium with the 10 speed auto and it was really good. It always seemed to know which gear to be in w/o hunting. I didn't run it hard, though. Probably only a handful of times along with a few burnouts to test the linelock LOL.
