Busted plastic - baseball bat damage

I would go to the pick n pull junkyard for two reasons. First is to save money on the part and second is you will learn how the panel comes off so if you break something it will be the one in the junkyard.

    Shell Rotella T6 10w30... thoughts???

I used T5 Rotella exclusively in a 2012 Equinox 2.4L motor for 5 years and around 70K miles. I didn't experience any of the oil consumption and other issues related to the inherent design and service schedule of this particular GM motor.

    Kobalt 40v electric lawnmower, junk?

IMO unless your yard is really small, I would get a gas mower. Toro still makes a decent "Super Recycler" with an aluminum deck for the price of a plastic Honda. Briggs motor is the best and they're easy to work on.

    Drain factory fill or wait

I would change it at 1,500 miles too.

    Electrolux Washing Machine- plastic broken!

FWIW for anyone reading this and looking for a new washer, Speed Queen still makes a mechanical commercial machine, model number TV2000WN. It still has the mechanical clicky timer w/o any chips or water level nonsense. It's pricy, but very similar to the 2009 year model SQ that I have and I've...

Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

I replaced a flush valve with a Korky made in USA valve and it works better and only cost a few $$$ more than the Fluidmaster.

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

I'm 64 and have two hips and one complete knee. Now that's been done for a few years I feel better than I have in a long time and feel lucky I can still crawl under my cars and truck to do maintenance. I'll leave the big jobs to the shop but little jobs like ball joints, brakes, steering rack...

Lake Speed Jr. ... Diesel vs Gas oils

Last I checked, Rotella has a JASO rating for use in motorcycles.

Where did this myth of an alleged crime victim "pressing charges" come from?

This pretty much explains it perfectly. I used to be a deputy sheriff and witness cooperation is the key unless law enforcement witnesses the crime. We had a choice of prosecuting or not in a construction fraud case here in VA but the guy paid us back the money and I told the detective that I...

    Preemptively Replace Battery...OR not?

I'm in the same situation. I have a 7 y/o Deka battery in my truck that's still working well. I might go another year if it's doing well by winter.

Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

The recession in the early '80s was the beginning of the end in the rust belt. I grew up in Morgantown, WV and moved down to VA in 1987. I always buy union made products if I can and cars from the USA or Canada.

Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

Since the CEO is anti-union (among other things) and I can't use an E-car (but probably consider it eventually) Tesla isn't on my list although I like the Model 3.

Car prices to rise due to tariffs and certain vehicles possibly ...

I've been screaming from the rooftops to anyone who would listen that it's important to buy American made, union made products. It sets the high standard. Tariffing Canada and certain other countries is just dumb, though. Tarrifs can be used stratigically to protect our industries in certain...

    Auto ins just doubled!

I'm in Virginia and have used State Farm for the past 47 years; I've used them ever since I bought my first car. Their rates might not be the absolute cheapest but they haven't tried to cheat me on a claim.

A great oil hiding in plain sight? Valvoline Euro FS 5w30.

I don't see the GM Dexos certification there. I wonder if they protect against LSPI in a newer turbo DI car?

ATF change in GM 10 Speed

Honestly, if it came with ULV, that's what I would use when doing a flush or drain & fill. It might shift harder or have other minor issues with regular Dex 6 types of fluid. However, my Cadillac has the 9 speed and uses Dexron 6 and my brother has a Bronco Sport with the 8 speed (basically...

Would you let someone borrow your car for $40

FWIW I've always been very lenient when it comes to lending out cars and my truck but I have responsible friends and family members. I just let them use for free and just ask to put some gas in when they return it. I always seem to get a full tank upon return.

Who here uses a torque wrench on the cv axle nut?

I do my own mechanical work and if the nut is torqued to, say 200# of torque, I will tighten it good and tight w/o a torque wrench. Honestly, I never thought about it as being that bad of a thing to do. Never had an issue doing it this way but I do see other people's viewpoints. FWIW I was an...
