Well the minivan is an oil burner

I like, use, and recommend Supertech but I have to recommend Valvoline over Supertech for the High Mileage version based on my experience for this case. Maybe switch to Supertech HM after the Valvoline Maxlife synblend does its thing.

Well the minivan is an oil burner

Running Seafoam in the sump is basically for the same purpose as the Gumout. Seafoam is 1st generation. Cyclohex* is 2nd gen (Auto-RX, BG EPR and others) and Gumout/Techron/PEA is 3rd generation. Use the PEA. EDIT: I should qualify PEA is better due to the safety profile for causing things like...

Do You Go By The Owner's Manual Maintenance Schedule?

I do not. I change the oil and filter every 30k miles on my RX-8. Every 15k miles oil and filter on the Mercedes. Just got the Hyundai, but current plan is once per 12k miles. Manual and diff every 75k miles. AT drain and fill every 30k miles. I also run Archoil 9100 and/or LiquiMoly...

Well the minivan is an oil burner

Add Gumout Multi-System as directed (1oz per quart) to the oil crankcase and run for 10minutes. Put the rest in the fuel. Top off with Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic of the highest weight oil the car manual allows. Next oil change go for all Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic. Drive it like you stole it...

Hyundai Lambda 3.3L V6 - startup rattle - 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE - is this normal?

This kind of racket (if oil pump related) is mostly reported in recent-ish models with variable displacement oil pumps like the Hyundai 3.3 and Nissan 3.5 and others (2011 and later). If you know how these pumps work you can imagine why a transient poor seal for a couple of seconds at startup...

Start up noise in engine of Nissan Frontier

I posted this below in another thread - I've been seeing this issue come up with a lot of relatively new timing chain motors, and a significant amount of the time it is the oil pump o-ring. Hard to say without a video with detailed audio. If it is the o-ring the fix(es) are pretty easy and cheap...

Bad Compression in 2 cylinders, and opinions on using CRC GDI IVD Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner for piston soak?

That stuff is like 50% ester and 30% PAO (synthetic oil base). Normally that much ester would eat away all seals. Since it doesn't, it must be bio based. The only easily available bio based ester I can think of is biodiesel (make sure its 98%+ actual biodiesel not some 20% biodiesel blend with...

    Mercedes, What's the Deal ??

Here's my experience on the answer to this. tl;dr version: I have an oldish Mercedes. Too many Mercedes and Audi owners are douches. Not most, but 5x more than other car brand owners. The best independent mechanics won't work on them for that reason. Long version: My wife has a 2002 SLK320...

Trying to save an otherwise junkyard bound car

My advice is just try this stuff https://rxauto.com/shop/rx-auto/head-block-treatment-kit/ From the link " We will refund your money if we are not able to successfully help you with the repair. " Try it, and get a refund if it doesn't work. I've heard good things about it working in aged Prius...

Hyundai Lambda 3.3L V6 - startup rattle - 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE - is this normal?

I’ve seen people replace the tensioner with no resolution because it was a bad/stiff o-ring in the oil pump allowing air to be drawn into the oil before it's pumped into the engine, aerating the oil. Valvoline Maxlife (it is fine to use it it in newer cars) will soften it up, or use LiquiMoly...

Bad Compression in 2 cylinders, and opinions on using CRC GDI IVD Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner for piston soak?

B-12 Chemtool ingredients are so harsh it is like canned cancer - take care with it. Also make sure it doesn’t get on any paint.

2008 Ram 3500 diesel: batteries going dead

I’ve rescued batteries with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005EKY1EM/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Last time I had this exact scenario it was an intermittently sticking relay.

Bad Compression in 2 cylinders, and opinions on using CRC GDI IVD Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner for piston soak?

First suspect if wet test improved things is you have either wear issues or stuck rings. Since you've seen compression go up with hard driving...looking like stuck rings. In my experience it is lowest risk and cost/time to just put your cleaners in the fuel system only (e.g. Berryman B-12 or...

AT205 Reseal vs Blue Devil Rear Main Sealer for a suspected Rear mean leak

Kia, Hyundai, Mazda - Used Car Candidates

I'd check out the Puebla, Mexico assembled 2014 Jetta SE 1.8T. Actually reliable (most VWs aren't) and OEM parts are cheap - but priced used like it is a typical unreliable VW with average to high priced parts. That year got the 1.8T and multilink rear suspension. $6k or so depending on mileage...
