    Mobil 1 15-50 Extended Performance

I cannot believe that BMW recommends either 15w/50 or 20w/50 for this car under any circumstances. My M50 engine in the '92 525 ran noticably better with 15w/40 and 10w/40HM than it did with the previous owner's 20w/50. I believe you're asking for trouble. What does the owner's manual call for?

Finally a good reply, what is up with some of these people? "These people" know he could have gotten the correct info from the dang owner's manual

    ARX treatment #1 '95 BMW 325is

BMW would recommend 5w-30 in this engine only in the dead of a Michigan winter. This engine should have 15w-40 dino or 5w-40 synthetic.

    Lamborghini Murcielago Oil Change

No one, including your wife, really cares what oil you use in that thing. You're just showing off.

    Kendall oil

Right, Conoco-Phillips now owns the Kendall brand. The old Kendall refinery is now owned and operated by another company who's name escapes me now.

    bmw -homebrew oil fill

[q IMHO, with today's advanced oils, there's no need for an oil that's any thicker than a 10w for the older BMW's My point. Why not just use 5w-40 or 5w-50 year around rather than try to re-invent the wheel? I have 5w/40 Pentosin in my 1981 M90B35 Euro engine. I'm confident it'll be just fine.

    bmw -homebrew oil fill

Your attempt at fine-tuning your motor oil seems...well, kinda pointless. You have no idea what you really end up with, just what you suppose should happen. Why would you not just use one of the synthetic 15w-40 motor oils out there and be done with it? Or better yet, Rotella 5w-40? The BMW...

tire brands you will/wont buy again?

Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S is an excellent all-around tire, period. I will buy another set for my wife's wagon despite the cost. For high performance applications the Bridgestone RE 750 (and the Firestone Wide Oval clone) is a good choice at a decent price. Yokohama Avid is a mediocre tire at...

    20W-50 anyone?

Many older BMWs use 20w-50. The oil weight charts in the owners's manuals recommend both 15w-40 and 20w-50 for moderate climates like mine where temps rarely go below 20 even in the depths of winter. It is thick stuff, however, and I'll probably go back to a 40 wt. in my coupe when my 93 cent a...

    High mileage oils...

I trying Castrol HM in the wife's wagon. Went from the normal 15w-40 to 10w-40HM. The engine didn't blow up, valves didn't even rattle a little bit. Autozone had the stuff on sale for a 1.20 less than the competition so I thought I'd give it a shot. The M50 BMW engine seems to like slightly...

recommendations for hot rod BMW M10 engine

BMW 2002 4 cylinder with high compression pistons, hot cam, ported/polished head, high performance exhaust. Should be putting out about 165 horses. I've never had one of these engines beefed to this point. In the past I've always used dino 20w/50 but, since this is a fairly fresh rebuild, I'm...

    BMW 328i or Mercedes C280W

A friend of mine bought a MB and had to have the top half of the engine re-done under warranty right off the get-go. A real pain. Tell him to go for the BMW but to bite the bullet and get the 335 twin turbo.

    Kendall vs Castrol GTX

Kendall is fine oil even now that it's part of the Conoco/Phillips family. I would continue to use it in the Honda with no worries especially since you're not going to keep the car long enough to worry about engine longevity in any case.

    Oil Choices

I wouldn't worry too much about oil choices in a car that you hardly drive.

Cars you OWNED and Loved to drive

Probably the best overall car was a 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass S with the swivel bucket seats. Most comfortable car I ever owned. If my '62 Volvo P1800S hadn't died a tragic death from a Pontiac GTO attack from the rear, I'd own her still.

    Kendall 5w-30 Semi Synthetic?

Well, you've already bought a case so use it. Your car vehicle won't mind at all. However, if your car blows up you made a bad choice.

Anyone collect modern or older oil containers?

I got started collecting Kendall oil containers years ago. An older friend of a friend kept putting his one old Kendall oil can in the neighborhood garage sale year after year. One year my wife took pity on him and bought the can and gave it to me. I then, of course, had the start of a "collection."

BMW 335 Factory Fill Test with 19k miles..Not good

What a B.S. comment. Got any data to back that up? Craig. Plus Bimmers aren't half the cars they used to be .Bimmers and Mercedes are about the only cars mfgs. that quality has gone down instead of improving or staying somewhat the course.
