Rental F150, strange cruise control behavior?

The Highlander has road sign assist, but it only returns a warning lights and buzzer. It doesn't effect throttle or braking. You need to be grossly exceeding the speed limit for it to trigger. It also recognizes Do Not Enter, Stop and Yield signs.

What are you working on today?

Started downloading repair and other documentation for the LS430 from TIS. I've found that (at least with old Toyotas), the electrical wiring diagrams are the most valuable.

    Post your latest parts purchase

Miscellaneous parts for the LS430. Gotta look for stuff to do, even though nothing really needs fixing. From Lexus of Pleasanton: Non-factory clips and hardware store fasteners bug the crap out of me. It's like looking at a custom and you see hardware store nut and bolts. From RA: There's...

Fuel Stabilizer in car not driven much

I put it in anything that may even remotely sit for a while. It shouldn't hurt anything. But I've experienced weird behavior on start-up once. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/how-does-sta-bil-work.142919/#post-2078110

Are Chinese tires really that bad?

I have Republic of China (Taiwan) tires (Milestar) on the Highlander, South Korean tires (GeoTour) on the LS430. They're too new to make any subjective evaluation about them, other than road noise. The Milestar tires are pretty noisy. The GeoTour tires are very quiet. Moreso than the...

Not as bad as the humongous "A" on Acuras.

Things we see driving around - original content (pictures you snapped)

Yes, driving skills are sorely lacking. As evidenced by the way some people cannot park between the lines if their life depended on it.

    Colonial Parkway cold case solved…

I used to listen to a lot of true crime podcasts, including Crime Junkie podcasts. Might be worth a listen: https://crimejunkiepodcast.com/update-colonial-parkway-murders/ I don't know when this one aired. Might be old information.

Thoughts on using the "Car Handle" as entry/exit support?

That support handle jammed into the striker should be strong enough to support an adult; I would worry about the loosening of the mounting bolts from the cyclic loading and unloading. It should be fine as long as you check the mounting bolt tightness periodically.

Can you run the ac with the windows down?

A friend at one of my previous jobs drove a Boxster and ran the AC with the top down. "Spence, why do you do that?" "Why not?" Good times, both at work and socially.

Rock Auto now has GKN CV boots and axles for select cars

I miss American Rebuilders drive axles. Never had comebacks with these. I installed them on the Legend back in 2001 and they're still running nicely after 153k miles.

The '98 LS is most likely history

2002 LS430; not a lot of options, other than an out of date navigation. Which is good. Too nice to pass up.

CO Detector To check CO Content In Vehicle Exhaust

Years ago, I borrowed a Gastester to adjust the mixture on the Ducati. The FI system runs in open loop that's adjusted via a potentiometer in the ECU. The pot adjusts the fuel injector dwell. https://www.gunson.co.uk/Product/G4125/Gastester-Digital It's not the easiest device to use...

The '98 LS is most likely history

The LS400 is officially off the books; the wire transfer showed up this morning. Still dealing with the injury; things are moving in a positive direction. The hunt for a replacement vehicle will begin shortly. Nothing out there really piques my interest.
