    Insane Veterinarian bills

When Simba had his gall bladder removed last year, his hospital bill was $31.6k and some change. I win! 🤪

    Package delivered? NEVER Arrived

I recently ordered an item from Amazon. Their tracking reported it was delivered and left on my porch. You cannot tell who's porch this is; it's not mine. For this to be my residence, the package would have had to be left next to the sidewalk.. Amazon has no check box for, "Delivered to...

    What happened to TiGeo?

There was one member, can't recall his user name, posted disparaging remarks towards Valvoline Maxlife ATF at every opportunity. It was attributed to a mechanical failure that led to some serious drama. If given the opportunity, I think he would have become a Maxlife serial killer. I don't...

A tool to clean interior windshield

I've been using this one, on and off for a few years: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08C7K99WW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Because windshields have a compound curve, sometimes it doesn't work very well. Unless the pad can flex to conform. I use it on the rear window...

New Faucet Shut-Off Valve - Leaking

Finished with this project yesterday. New shut-offs, new faucet, re-caulked around the basin. My caulking skills needs work, but it's passable. Re-installing the drain pipes, the P-trap would not seal. I don't know how plumbers putty got all over the ABS, but I spent a while cleaning it off...

New Faucet Shut-Off Valve - Leaking

SharkBite Max for the win! Took some rough measurements and left the stubs as-is. I didn't know they made these types of fittings for residential plumbing. I suppose it make sense since everything is now PEX. I used to use similar Parker pneumatic fittings in my fixture designs. Had to...

New Faucet Shut-Off Valve - Leaking

Thanks for the options. This is why my first thought was to cut back the pipe a bit. HD is open late in these parts. I'm going to go cruise the aisles.

New Faucet Shut-Off Valve - Leaking

I think I know what to do, but I'd like some opinions. I'm replacing the shut-off valves in the kitchen. I'd leave them alone, but the hot water side won't stop the flow. No issues with the new valve on the cold side. However, the hot side is leaking at the compression fitting. The old...

Another Toyota oil burner saved by a Berryman B-12 piston soak!

My father always had a gallon can of Berryman B-12 in the shop. One afternoon, I was messing around in the shop. Poured some B-12 into a small container. Then I put a few drops of STP Oil Treatment into it. The STP hardened into a rubber-like ball.

Double platinum vs irridium spark plugs

Is a 14 year old car with 82k miles considered low mileage? How is the car driven? Short trips? Is it a V8? Maybe the EGR system might be partially plugged? 🤷‍♂️

What are you working on today?

I wanted to mow the front lawns but I forgot to shut the sprinklers off yesterday. Long, wet grass is no fun. I'll give it a few days to dry out (I didn't want to mow today anyway). Cleaned off the work benches in the garage. Storage space is becoming an issue. Did a survey on the kitchen...

What are you working on today?

Yesterday, removed the 2-year old Everstart Value battery out of the Legend. I had been sitting at the curb for maybe a year? Code enforcement wanted it moved in 10 days or they'd tow it. They seem to be coming around and tagging vehicles more often now for some reason. I don't think it's...

Replace gasket only on water pump?

The shaft seal should be fine. Provided the "new" pump was stored indoors out of the elements. In-servce is a lot harsher than storage. You'll see coolant out of the weep hole before water will get to the bearings. Typical WP construction:

    New tool thread

I never owned/used one of these tools. Thanks for the help! After I posted, I found adapter plates in with the provided blade. These allow the use of most any brand blade. Maybe I should take my own advice and read the instructions?

    New tool thread

You guys mentioned blades. The tool only came with one toothed blade. So I went shopping for a few scraper blades. It wouldn't be a Makita if it didn't have a proprietary "Starlock" blade mounting system. All the cheap bulk blades don't work with this tool. 😑

What are you working on today?

Took over an hour looking for the ozone generator. I looked everywhere in the garage; every cabinet, under every bench. I went outside to look in the shed. There is way too much holiday crap in there. Back to the garage. I found it under a pile of storage bins the wife stacked up on top of...

Things you had to do to old cars that you don't have to anymore with newer cars. Go!

Replace the points and condenser. Lube the distributor cam and rubbing block. Gap the spark plugs (I still check them though). Hook up the engine scope. Adjust dwell, ignition timing, idle speed and mixture. Rebuild carburetors. Check battery water. Adjust brake shoes. Pack wheel bearings. I'm...
