I leave them on. Unlike the LS400, the LS430 has a little access cover in the under cover so you can get to the oil filter. The Highlander has under covers under the engine and side covers down to the rear suspension.

I don't care for them either. I don't know if it's a mis-match between the filter or wrench; aftermarket filters + OEM wrench, or vice-versa. I wonder if an OEM filter and OEM wrench combo will work better? I just use a strap wrench or the 16" Channel-locks.

Went around the LS430 correcting all the crap I found earlier. Who ever was working on this thing before I got it, needs a swift kick. For such a low mileage car there's a lot of places that show just crap workmanship. Replacing missing/incorrect clips in the trunk. Found one, origin unknown...

Assuming the argument that head gasket failure is a trend, and it's warping of the engine block is a contributing factor - I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the UR engine block being an open deck design? The UZ engines are closed deck and head gasket failures are rare with these...

I was expecting to see on old "tea-pot" Holley carburetor. I think those were used in the 1950's. I've never worked on one or seen one in operation. The parts store I worked at in the 1990's had a new one in the box.
