Using Flushing Oil in a Classic Engine?

It's counter intuitive but Group 1 Conventional oils, which are the least refined or pure kind of conventional do actually dissolve deposits relatively well compared to Group II or III oils, thanks to the Aromatics in Group I , the detergents and dispersants in an oil do little to clean already...

Using Flushing Oil in a Classic Engine?

As long as the engine is not too filthy that Comma flushing oil should be ok, but i'm not sure how that would fix the pinging, to remove carbon build up what i've done is water decarbonisation, using distilled water in a spray bottle and spraying it down the carb while revving it between...

    Moly or Boron preference?

This is an analysis of one of my favorite HDEOs, Shell Rimula R4X 15W40, it's an old school API SL, CI-4 , ACEA E7 oil, the amount of Boron surprised me, almost 500ppm, if i recall correctly i saw an older analysis of this oil and i don't recall it having 500ppm of Boron for sure.

    Mobil 1 FS X2 5w50 vs Supercar 5w50?

Here in Europe until last year we still had the X1 version, which was mostly GTL and PAO with a dash of Ester, the X2 version is mostly if not all Group 3 / 3+ which is kind of a bummer, although it is API SP now with less Calcium and more Magnesium.

    Good 50wt oil ?

I like Rimula R4X 15W40, available here in Europe too, old school SL/CI-4 HDEO.

    Good 50wt oil ?

I've used this in my Capri, pretty decent Synthetic blend 15W50

    Good 50wt oil ?

In South America 20W50 is everywhere, if it runs well on that and it burns less oil, by all means keep using it.

    Oils in other countries.

Here in Spain too until about 2 or 3 years ago you would have struggled to find 0W20 anywhere, i would confidently say 5w30 and 10w40 are still the top sellers.

    Oils in other countries.

Ofcourse, in the EU at least that is not the case but in Asia, Africa, South America, that is the case. I can still get Group 1 15W40 HDEOs and 20W50s here in Spain, the good old API CI-4 stuff with plenty of Zddp hehe

If you mean ILSAC, the answer is no, but we dove have Dexos oils and such.

Using HPL 10w-60 in a Classic Engine?

I agree that i don't really see the point of running a 10w60 in it? Unless it has dramatically low oil pressure? It would probably do just fine with a 15w40 such as Shell Rimula R4X or Mobil Delvac MX 15w40, or maybe Valvoline Vr1 20w50.

    New BMW Green coolant?

I may live under a rock but what is this new Green BMW coolant? specifically LC-18 I read on the datasheet of one brand that it is a MoSi-Oat, ) Molybdate , Silicate, OAT?, and that it is 2-Eha free. My aunt has a 2020 X1 and it needs a top up but the dealer prices are ridiculous so trying to...

    Crossland 1.2 81kW engine oil

PAO on its own has a tendency to "dry out" seals, tat is why most if not all PAO oils have some Ester content, as it has the opposite effect. I wouldn't be afraid to use a PAO based oil. But honestly i'd get rid of the car when the warranty expires, those 1.2 Puretechs are so bad.

    1986 Ford F-250 7.5 460 100k miles. What engine oil?

Since you are in Minnesota i'd run Mobil 1 0W40, or maybe a A3/B4 5W40.

Using HPL 10w-60 in a Classic Engine?

If you want to run a 10W-60 i would highly recommend Mobil 1 10W-60, very stout oil with a strong add pack.

Is it true European service intervals run as high as 20k miles?

According to some people yes, because of the super low sulphur content modern diesel doesn't quite lubricate the way the old stuff did, and i guess that can cause more wear of old diesel pumps etc.

Is it true European service intervals run as high as 20k miles?

Post a new thread and we can discuss it there and other people can chime in.

Is it true European service intervals run as high as 20k miles?

Yes, i suppose part of the reason for these super long intervals is to reduce the amount of waste oil that is generated, but longer intervals are also possible because in the EU both Gasoline and Diesel are now ultra low suplhur, so the TBN of the oil doesn't deplete so quickly. If i had a...

Mobil ow40,10w30HM or EP which cleans best!?

Group 1 is rare in the US but there are still loads of Group 1 conventional oils being sold across the world. Here in Spain i can still easily get Group 1 15W40 HDEOs, old SL/ CI-4 / E7 spec. One i've used and recommended to friends is Shell Rimula R4X. From my experiencia it cleans rather...
