C3 oil instead of A3/b4 in volvo D3 diesel?

A5/B5 is a mostly outdated spec no longer used much since the early 00s , high saps, low - mid hths. C3 is mid saps high HTHS , i would not worry about using a C3 oil, but i don't think A3/B4 would hurt it .

    PDS Rant

I find particularly Castrol seems to have very lacking data sheets on some of their oils. Then on the other hand i've found data sheets from small brands like parts store brand oils over here that have extensive info even indicating stuff like Zddp and Calcium content. I've emailed large...

Cold weather idling does increase fuel in oil!

I have read of ex cop cars for example with Hemis and LS engines suffering from cam wear due to hours on end of idling, makes sense, on a pushrod V engine the cam lobes are only lubed by splash lubrication from the crank, even modern ones, correct me if i am wrong. But at least that's why with...

Another reason to do oil change yourself.

My worst experience at a shop is when a guy changed the u joints on a driveshaft, bought the wrong ones, didn't care, they were too small and fitted loose and welded them on. Back when i was not so mechanical minded. Eventually i had a brand new shaft made and that was it.

Another reason to do oil change yourself.

I once had a clutch done at a bit of a shady shop , they did the job ok, but the guy punctured a Cv boot accidentally, i hope, and didn't tell me or maybe he didn't even notice, pretty old guy , and he snapped off the reverse light switch on the transmission, i didn't get too mad as he let me...

Cold weather idling does increase fuel in oil!

I'm from Finland, i got my license there, my teacher always told me unless it's extremely cold, start the engine, let it run for a minute or so, clear snow and ice if needed , then take off and drive gently until the engine begins to warm up , keep the revs low, change gears gently. Putting a...

PCV valve - Change interval and reasoning?

I've changed the Pcv on my 75 Capri once in its entire life, it takes a minute since it's right on the valve cover, and this engine has probably close to 180k miles on it, running on conventional modt of its life, every once in a while i take it out and shake it to check and put it back in , i...

    Would you continue using Mannol?

Mannol is not necessarily a bad brand but a bit shady, some of their oils I've seen have good VOAs and UOAs while others do not. Why don't you give Comma a try, i think you are in the Uk? Also cheap and has a better reputation imo.

    What makes Euro oils different?

Personally since i have never had a car newer than 1999 i change once a year, i typically never go over 7500km or a year, year and a half perhaps. I've had one car with power steering, never even had a car with Ac, and never an automatic either lol. But, when you have never had such comforts...

    What makes Euro oils different?

People like to experiment and push things to the limit for fun. I saw a UOA once on Oil Club .de of a M1 5W-50 that was over 4 years in Use and like 40k kms, 25k freedom units and the lab did not find any alarming results, under the right conditions, it is possible, it was a diesel Opel and...

    LSJr- Synthetic Oils vs Conventional

But not in their tanks, in winter the oil would often freeze and they poured in kerosene to thin it out, should have thought better.

    What makes Euro oils different?

But yes the reason behind is mostly environmental. Modern large European trucks already are recommending 100.000km intervals or 60k miles afaik. But you also have to take into account maintenance is more costly here, there are few quick lube places, none in most countries. Nowadays if you...

    What makes Euro oils different?

15k is not crazy with a good oil and mostly highway use, with a modern fuel injected car i would not worry at all. Ford was already recommending 10.000km in normal use here in the late 70s and they really didn't have much issues or warranty claims that i know.
