    The V Word.

I had mine done a little more than a year ago.. wasn't exactly painless, but I have a rather high tolerance for lydocaine (takes 4 ampules before I even start to get numb at the dentist). the worst part for me was the cauterizing, felt like I got jabbed with a cattleprod. The doctor that did...

Tools, which do you like & why???

for a floor jack, neither.. I can't remember the name of my floor jack ATM, but it's a "real" floor jack, it's 4'+ long, has about a 30" lift, a 6" pad, and weighs about 200lbs. I got it when I inherited a butload of tools from my wife's great grandfather. it'd probably be $500 to replace it...

Indoor shed for outdoor gas equipment

most rental places (at least all of the ones I've seen/used) specifically prohibit storage of gasoline powered equipment (except cars). the one I currently use allows you to store a boat, but not the fuel tanks (if removable).

    Replacing entry doors

I completely agree.. there's a huge difference between just getting it in and making it right. the biggest thing that people need to learn is to throw out the level and the square for this task. the door has to work, period. like My grandfather taught me (who was an amazing carpenter until his...

    Michigan State Supreme Court Ruling

you're all missing the problem, I think.. the problem is pot remains in your system for about 3 weeks. if you're going to charge somebody with something, how about possesion of a controlled substance, not DUI, since you can be 3 weeks removed from actually being intoxicated when you got tested...

    Sirius stinks..

my coworker has a lifetime sub to sirius.. I think I'll just cough up the $13 a month for now. his audiovox radio/boombox does have much better sound quality than my xact unit does. I may buy the JVC sirius receiver that plugs into the back of my JVC cd player. having a seperate sat unit is a...

Engine hitting 100K. Should i be worried?

if your maintenance is up to date, you don't need to worry about it at all. these aren't flat-head fords, pretty much any modern engine is just getting broke in at 100k.

Special saw blade for composite deck?

get a blade in the 40 tooth range, your worm drive probably doesn't spin fast enough to use a 24 tooth on composite decking. Freud's Diablo line is excellent and inexpensive. you should be able to pick up a 40 tooth blade for less than $15.

American ingenuity at it again 75 mpg car.

my dad's '93 got 58.. until the EPA mandated MTBE reformulated gas in our area.. mileage dropped top about 42. it was a tough little car.. my dad finally retired it after it was hit for the 3rd time.. bad enought that it bent the roof. he replaced it with a '97 (in '97) that my brother wrecked a...

I Dont Think Costco/**'s Type Price Clubs are Worth It...

if Shaw's has hamburger on sale, they double the cost of buns. I only ever go there because I can walk to the one by me. we usually buy the bulk of our groceries at Hannaford (Delhaize America) and buy meat at one of the local Surefines.. recently they had B/S chicken breasts for like...

Help! - Can't Get this $#@&* Wiper Arm off!

that tab is all that holds the wiper on on a 88-98 GM truck. on my 88 it usually just takes a bit of wiggling and it comes right off. in the pics it looks to me like the tab is broken in 1/2.

    Building my home

What kills me is what residential guys get away with that we can't.. we get an OSHA visit about once a year, so we need to do things in an OSHA-kosher fashion. I drive by places with a "billy bob's construction" sign tacked to a tree all the time, and see wooden "staging" cobbled together or a...

    Building my home

sorry to hear that.. usually though if a fatality occurs, OSHA is on the company like fly on stink. IMHO, 2 hrs isn't enough time to safely erect those trusses.. pic # 4 makes it appear that your girder truss isn't even nailed together. I also noted the extreme lack of bracing though the layout...

    Looking after your things.

I've never had a new gun.. My 20ga single is a brazillian made piece bought at auction 20 ys ago, My No4 MkI Enfield was made in '49, my Ruger 10/22 was bought for me at the same auction as the shotgun, it's stock is beat up and the barrel is about shot out (I've run about 100,000 rounds through...

Explain to me how a Prestone flush/fill kit works

I could probably use my tap water.. using my aquarium test kit shows I've got a gH of 0.. I actually needed to "harden up" the water to keep pH at a steady 8.2 (I have Cichlids).

High Efficiency Gas Furnaces and Hot Water Heaters - Is the Chimney Obsolete?

they're only new in the residential market.. the tankless heaters are nothing more than a "booster" that have been used commercially (esp for comm. dishwashers)for a long time. there was one in the kitchen at a holiday Inn I worked at 15 years ago.

tape adapter IS better (than i-trip)!

I've found on my sirus radio that while the sound quality is MUCH better using the line in, sometimes the music channels seem a bit overcompressed, like a too low bit rate MP3. the talk channels, esp H100 don't ever seem to have this problem. of course it may just be my $50 xact unit. I'd like...

    Building my home

those pro-bolts sound like lighter duty versions of what we use.. the system we use is actually the third system he wanted to use.. the first one involved bolting a fabricated bracket tot he concrete and affixing it to the 6x6 corner posts with about 15 lags.. rejected that didn't like the...
