    What rustproofing (DIY) is good?

I wouldn't spray WD-40. It's 50% stoddard solvent and will strip the film from your car and leave it bare to rust in short time. My experiment worked last night. I took 1L of SuperTech 5W30 and combined 75% of 1 cartridge of Marine MP Grease, and heated it in a tea kettle bought at Walmart. I...

What do you use for measuring oil or other fluid?

They have those oil fillers you want on page 2. Check them out, and the nice drain pan I bought. The cheaper of the 2 but it holds enough coolant for my whole maxima V6 engine.

What do you use for measuring oil or other fluid?

Gary those look high quality, i'm going to bite your style and buy one too. Get the galvanized, i'm using a Behrens huge drain pan I bought from Fastenal, it's great. The galvanized is so easy to clean, it's not even funny. I won't fiddle with those plastic things again. Also, I bought a...

    What rustproofing (DIY) is good?

Problem with the rubber stuff is it can rust underneath, but the coating still looks in tact. This is what is happening on mine from the dealer applied stuff when it was new 16 yrs ago. Plus in the wheel well, I started peeling off that rubber/plastic coating and it's rusting right through.

    Coating chassis with marine grease.

Bigskye, i'm doing an experient tonight and I'll post the results later. I'm mixing 1L of Walmart SuperTech 5W30 engine oil with about 75% of 1 cartridge of Jet-Lube MARINE MP NLGI No. 2 Grease. I have then combined the contents inside a cheap walmart aluminum tea pot, and I'm going outside to...

    What rustproofing (DIY) is good?

Do you guys know if Krown or other commercial places have the compound HEATED up before it enters the spray gun? Like if applying it in the fall or winter, it would have to go on piping hot so it creeps right? I can't find it, but didn't someone say on here to heat the rustproof (oil or...

What additive helps get rid of carbon

Nothing too outrageous, but the point is I think it may be at the point where cleaners could be a waste of money, unless there's no way you can overhaul it - then try it. I found that the cleaners in fact clogged the car somehow - after I did the top end treatment with the seafoam, the car...

    damage going to jackstands

Be careful using the jackstands on the control arms, parallel link/radius rod area of suspension. These parts typically cannot sustain the weight of the car, and service manuals will specify not to jack up the car or support it at these points. Now, if there is a welded bracket to the chassis...

Is There a Specific Tool to Test Belt Tension

The belt I got by the way is Mitsuboshi. I believe this is one of the OEM suppliers for Nissan, although don't quote me.

Is There a Specific Tool to Test Belt Tension

Thanks bud. The tensioner I got is a GMB, I guess it's German? The build quality seems better than the previous no name brand one the previous mechanics put in there. The tensioner had a spring (purchased separately from Nissan OEM) but I threw it out, as the spring I believe is just for...

    civic started running hot tonight.....

It's the wires, it's not the thermostat. Did you make sure to push the boots down until you hear the CLICK when they connect? Line them up to the correct bores - the plastic cap will have the numbers where the wires come out. DO NOT TOUCH THE ROTOR, there's no point.

    civic started running hot tonight.....

Dude leave the rotor alone. You didn't even touch the rotor. Your telling me that the rotor suddenly broke while you were doing this repair? If the Honda has them, Did you connect the wire to the ignition coil? Did you disconnect the power transistor?

Deionized vs Distilled Water for Radiator

Notice the bottle of concentrated coolant says to mix with deionized water. Is there any reason they don't list distilled water? Some benefit over it? I read this from the internet - do you guys think this is nonsense: (Seems a little over dramatic to me. Why would the manufacturers all put mix...

kenwin30, List exactly what parts you touched when you did the job and your problem will be solved. The wires aren't hard - they should be numbered on the distributor - line them up to the appropriate bores.

How Many Times Can a Car Be Overheated?

That's the norm critic. You should see how ladies (mom for example and girls I know) kill trannies to death. I swear, I think car manufacturers have to build reliability factors purely for the women who drive them. They are the ultimate test for reliability. Watch when girls drive - they do...

Is There a Specific Tool to Test Belt Tension

Is there a risk though with a belt too loose - like the timing belt on the Maxima - if too loose would it break or something? Timing belt is important on this car, as, if it breaks I beleive valves will smack piston heads, and do bad damage unlike many cars where you can just coast I guess. Can...
