    pay cut at work

I've been interviewing for several jobs over the past two months, at what is considered an 'essential' business. One of the interview processes moved to virtual and even progressed through the final stage. Hoping to be hired next week, once they figure out the virtual hiring process. I'm keeping...

    Ford vs Chevy

GM never paid back $50 billion. 'Forgiven' by Obama. Ford has been a better corporate citizen, and has better customer service. Their infotainment systems are great too. I really like the PI/DI technology on their engines. If you don't want a pickup, their hybrids are very well designed too...

    2020 Subaru Forester Base

They have 0% financing for 63 months. No reason not to take it. Are they giving you a price well under invoice?

The End Of The MiniVan Era

I had a minivan even when I was single. Perfect to load a bunch of friends and go skiing or take a trip. Used it for work too. Later when we had kids they were great. I still miss the room, but we opted for a Subaru after several bad winters.

    Hard time selling my vehicle.....

The tag says your car has a manual transmission. It's hard to find a buyer for those these days. Young people don't know how to drive them.

    Mitsubishi Mirage for Basic Transportation

I'd look at something safer and more modern. The city will take a toll on your vehicle. A 2-4 yr old Subaru, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai or Kia would all be OK.

Tell this geezer why I need gigabit Internet?

We have 3 people using two 10Mb/s wireless connections. We do work stuff , school stuff, video conferences, HD video, browsing, etc. No issues. You could easily get by wiith a 25 Mb/s connection, $20-$30/mo at Xfinity. It can be a little slow for updates, but it is otherwise just fine. If you...

    Shaving costs during this time

We cut the cord long ago. But our expenses are around half of what they were pre CV, no eating out, no entertainment, no gym, no sports, no clothes shopping, no discretionary purchases, no gas, no car maintenance, no vacations. All we have left is rent on our son's empty college apartment ...

    Internet speeds in current climate.

Using AT&T LTE hotspots, and speed is down to around 10Mb/2Mb. Before it was 2-4x faster. The connection is very stable for work VPN or video, so no real issues. Our Tmobile connections run around 30-40/5, but we have a lot less data, so sticking with AT&T for now.

    BMW 328D?

BMW's are too expensive to keep running. Pity, very nice cars otherwise.

Thicker oils are coming back to USA

Has anyone else noticed that new vehicles are becoming unaffordable? Average purchase price is upwards of $35K. Continuing to increase fuel economy standards is actually counterproductive. It costs a lot of money to continually increase fuel standards, and we are starting to approach the point...

What's the proper oil for a push mower

I use a M1 EP 0w-20, because I have about 20 oz (mower capacity) remaining in the 5Q jug after I do an oil change for my Honda. I change it every few years since it gets only around 10-15 hrs/yr use.

    Extended Warranty Companies

3rd party warranty providers have a history of going out of business. Their web site says nothing about their financial stability or financial ratings. Stay away!

Highest mileage vehicle gas engine with no oil filter?

There are working Model T Fords at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI that are over 100 years old and must have many hundreds of thousands of miles on them. You can ride on one for a few $, or volunteer and become a driver. Amazing!

Your thoughts on extended car warranties....

    1. under limited circumstances 2. yes 3. I had an '87 Ford Aerostar, a work van that I drove very hard and was known for poor reliability. Purchased an 8 yr unlimited mileage warranty, and had over $6000 of repairs. The warranty cost $1500. Lots of engine work, brake lines, A/C, steering etc...

    Subaru BRZ....2012

The first year of the BRZ in the US was '13, and it was not very reliable. Unusual for a Toyota. I would get a newer model, like '17 and on, after they fixed all of the problems. It will cost a few thousand more, but major engine work is really not OK.

    Citizens Insurance - anyone?

We had Hanover/Citizens for a bit, but switched to MEEMIC (owned by AAA Michigan). The agency we used was purchased and customer service declined. After the first year Citizens' rates climbed a lot. Seems to be normal for most of the larger insurers. Slight increase the first year with ever...

Garage door replacement a DIY project?

We had a non-insulated one installed for under $1K, including a wifi opener, steel door with windows, and old door haul away. Install was around $200 of the total. Hardly worth it for DIY.
