    Done With Glocks

The P365XL model with a manual safety is hard to find. I bought the regular model and the conversion kit (it took 2 mo to get the parts). The 15 round mags are hard to find too.

    Ammunition Cost Doubles

After what happened this year I'm surprise it is not even higher. You can't blame people for wanting to protect themselves and their families. Hopefully it will settle down in the next 6mo or so. Shotgun shells are not too crazy, but you cannot find buckshot. Target loads are plentiful. I'm...

Best winter tire out of these options only?

Xice Snow or VikingContact 7 would be my choice. The Michelins are supposed to last a season longer because the siping and grooves go deeper. They claim that they work until 4/32 vs 5/32 for the others.

Which winter tire would you choose out of these options?

Why not go down a size and buy some new steel rims? You might have a better selection in 17"

    Michelin Introduces New "X-Ice Snow"

After looking at the TireRack reviews of snow tires, and seeing the X Ice3 was nearly rated as high, plus the Michelin demo comparison we took the plunge and bought a set of Xice Snows for both vehicles. We mostly drive on cleared roads in the winter and dry pavement handling is equally...

Vredestein Quatrac Pro or General Altimax RT43

Consumer Reports rates the RT43 higher. The RT43 is the highest rated all season tire. You have to move to the performance category to get something better. Snow performance on the RT43 is rated as very good, but it is still not as good as a dedicated snow tire, especially on ice. That being...

Dropping a wheel size and speed rating for winter.

How safe and effective is it to go from a 225/60R17 H to a 225/65R16 T snow tire? The calculator shows only a -0.4% diameter change on the tire. I am considering this size because the Michelin X-Ice Snow is not available in a 215/70R16, the OEM lower trim size. Any functional difference in...

    Touring tires for my Accord

Continental PureContact LS are probably the cheapest on a per mile basis, especially if you can buy them with a rebate. Consumer reports says that they last for 90K, and the handling/traction is outstanding.

    Michelin Introduces New "X-Ice Snow"

We just bought a house in the lake effect snow zone so we will be buying sets for our vehicles. Extra life will be welcome.

    What would you pick?

We have an Outback and had a Fusion for a bit. I'd recommend the Fusion hybrid model , but only if you buy it used. We averaged close to 50 mpg, a bit less at 75mph freeway driving, great for a commuter car. The Outback is super practical and you never gets stuck. It even has limited towing...

    Hybrid Bicycles

I'd look for something used in good shape. I have a Trek 8.5 hybrid with a front suspension and a rear vibration absorbing 'isoshock'. It has Shimano disk brakes and a 27 speed powertrain (you only need 10 or 11). Roads in our area are pretty rough and patched, so the shocks help a lot. I also...

Help needed buying a new, or near new SUV

Given that your friend keeps vehicles a long time you are probably best off going used if you can find a 'certified' car. But that really depends on how many miles your friend puts on a year. Domestic makers generally have a lot higher depreciation, as do luxury makes. I'd look at a Lincoln or...

    Price shock with used cars

Why not just buy a new premium Outback that includes eyesight? Should be under $30K. $17.5K for a 5 year old car with 60Kmi seems a bit much.

9000k service intervals. Should I change filter have way thru?

Just stick with the factory interval unless you do severe service driving. 9000mi is no big deal for any synthetic. The only reason to change the oil at 4500 is if you have fuel dilution.

    Driving In Other Countries

The hardest parts about driving in the UK is getting used to a) about a million roundabouts, even with no island , b) Shifting gears with your left hand (no muscle memory) c) positioning your car properly on the very narrow roads. and d) driving with hedges about 6 in from your passenger window...

Filet mignon or ribeye in Crock Pot?

Generally you use leaner meats in the crockpot. Don't waste good steak in one.

Will I get banned if I complain about Toyota?

Toyotas are far from flawless. We had a '99 Sienna that had trim fall off, a bent bent rear axle (no accidents), bad catalytic converter, etc. etc. with less than 100K. Had a Camry where the trunk popped open randomly. I've had far fewer problems with our current Subaru and Honda. I really...

Subaru Outback years not burning oil

Some early production 2013 2.5 Outbacks have the oil burn issue (we have one). That includes some CVT models. The 2014 models have different rings.
