    2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L, 165K, Mobil 1 EP 0w-20, 13990 miles, Fram Ultra Filter

800 lbs unloaded to ~2K lbs loaded. It was a small U-haul enclosed trailer and we filled it each time on several when we moved. RPMs were kept under 3K except when merging, we drove around 62-65mph on the freeway to save the CVT when loaded. We even averaged around 22mpg! Great advice in the...

    2013 Subaru Outback 2.5L, 165K, Mobil 1 EP 0w-20, 13990 miles, Fram Ultra Filter

Fram Ultra filter. The short block was swapped out under the Subaru recall at 99K, and has 66K on it. Driving was mostly highway and rural roads, with 2K of towing. 5Q of M1-EP 0w-20, with 2 quarts of M1-AFE 0w-20 as makeup oil. Oil consumption was around 1Q per 6K miles.

    Michelin CrossClimate2 Tread Life

Consumer reports claims 95K mile tread life for the CC2. That's crazy!

    General RT43 replacement?

We have both 365AWs and CC2s. The CC2 is superior in every way except for deep snow. They are similar on ice. I'd recommend the CC2 unless you live in a very snowy area.

Please help me understand Extended Oil Drain motor oils

An NA engine with mostly highway miles should have no problem running 15K with extended life oil as long as you have a high quality filter. Running that same engine in stop and go conditions should have much more frequent oil changes. That's around the OCI we run, and we add oil as needed (2Q...

Synthetic oil question about length of time not miles

Follow Mazda's recommendation and change the oil at 7500 miles, which might be 1-2 years depending on how many trips yo take. Long trips are the easiest type of use on the car and oil.

Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner needed if Costco gas is used often

Holiday was dropped from Top Tier when Circle K bought them. Top Tier gas is the same or cheaper than the independents where I live, so no real reason not to use it.

GY Assurance Outlast vs. Michelin CrossClimate2

We have General 365AW on one car and CC2s on the other. In every aspect excepting deep snow and ice, (and lower MPG) the CC2s are superior. For our conditions we leave the 365AW on year round and swap the CC2s with snow tires for an abbreviated winter season.

Anyone have the General 365aw on their vehicle?

We have had the 365AW for about a year and they have been great in the winter, not much different than a snow tire. On dry roads they are good but not the best in wet weather. They don't hydroplane, but stopping distances are longer than I would like. Handling overall is good but they don't...

    All Weather Tires for Crosstrek?

We have CC2 on one Outback and General 365AW on the other. The CC2 is better in rain and summer driving. The 365AW is better on ice. They are about the same on light snow, but the 365AW is better on deep snow. We have Michelin X-Ice Snow for the CC2 Outback for winter because we get a lot of...

Anyone have the General 365aw on their vehicle?

We've had them a year in all 4 seasons. They are decent tires and excellent in the snow/ice on our Subaru (good enough that we decided not to get snow tires, and we live in a snowy area). Wet traction is not as good as some others and they drift a bit. Dry traction is very good. Overall, we are...

    What's your preferred tire pressure?

On our Outbacks 38 front, 36 rear. That evens out treadwear on a relatively heavy car.

    Horrendous AT&T cell service

We have all three services - ATT hotspot, Verizon work phones, T-Mobile personal phones. I don't see much, if any difference between them. At my house none of them work except on the roof. That is not surprising since they mostly use the same towers. Rural coverage is pretty bad for all of the...

Do you have "brand loyalty"??? e.g., Purchased the same make of vehicle your entire adult life?

We stay brand loyal until the vehicle has more than average problems. Volvo - rusted out, expensive repairs. Never again. Ford - purchased many of them, has good luck with the trucks until the Aerostar. Repair costs were close to the vehicle price (fortunately covered by extended warranty)...

Recommendations for moderate sized gun safe and bedside pistol safes, ammo storage

We just moved. I'm looking for a high quality gunsafe for 5-7 Rifles/Shotguns and around 7-10 pistols, not much more than 300 lbs, with a good quality lock. I don't want to be calling a locksmith when it fails. Prefer US made, not Chinese. It will go on a concrete floor in a humidity controlled...

Which tire brand and model within that brand last the longest miles.

If your tires wear out early, the manufacturer will typically pro-rate them and give you a credit. I would try the Michelin Defender T+H for your minivan. We have Altimax RT43's but I think they are discontinued.

5k OCI Overkill: M1 EP vs Pennzoil Ultra Platinum

    Walmart $77 3x 5Q M1EP 0w-20 - $20 rebate = $19/5Q jug. That's about as cheap as you can find for any oil.

Subaru OEM vs. M1 vs Fram Ultra vs. Fram Endurance for Subaru 2.5 DI (2023) and 2.5 PI (2013)

Both are 2.5L Outbacks. I've been using M1 EP 0w-20 with the '13, Subaru oil with the '23.

Subaru OEM vs. M1 vs Fram Ultra vs. Fram Endurance for Subaru 2.5 DI (2023) and 2.5 PI (2013)

Considering the following oil filters for our two Subarus: 2023: 6K OCI - OEM ($15) M1 ($12) Fram Ultra ($9) - leaning toward the Fram because of the short OCI and it may be better than the OEM. 2013: 15K OCI - M1 ($12) Fram Endurance ($13) No longer considering the Ultra. What would you pick...
