    80w-90 GL-4 For a 1945 Ford 2N

Yes, there is a chemical reaction, of course. What it is, exactly... I do not know. I think there are various EP additives (sulfate, phosphate, borate), and I also think the first two are the worst if you want a happy GL-4 gearbox. People say that the dual-rated GL-4/GL-5 stuff is OK... but...

Why A Conventional Over a Synthetic Gear Oil?

A "problem with running 'synthetics'" is a rather blanket statement. First of all, what type of problem were they having? Was it a financial, "expense", problem?? Businesses are in the business of making profit and nothing comes before this one objective. If the problem was related to actual...

    Thickest GL4 gear oil?

aquariuscsm: I'm curious what your results were... of the 140w lube in your 5spd Nissan trans. I see you're using MTG now, so 140w was too thick for you? I was thinking of using it for a week or two in order to see if this quiets my alleged Input Shaft Bearing noise. Can purchase the GL-4...

Thinnest gear oil made for manual transmission????

OK.... Drove the truck one more time today, same distance.... and now the throwout bearing is making ZERO noise, and the input bearing[s] is definitely noticeable when idling next to a building, or wall. So the hunt continues -- Originally Posted By: mechtech2 You are going the wrong way! The...

Thinnest gear oil made for manual transmission????

Hmm.... Well, it looks like I spoke too soon!!! Drove the truck for its fourth trip, on some back roads today. And it is quite obvious to me now that it's just the throw out bearing. So that's great news, IMO. Made another noise, which I can only assume came from the pressure plate. And there...

Thinnest gear oil made for manual transmission????

Hello, I'm in search of the thinnest gear oil made for a manual transmission. Long story, short is that I just bought a '94 Nissan Hardbody with 208k miles. It doesn't appear to be kept up as well as I'd like, but I got it for just a tad more than scrap value, and it DOES run. Very impressive...

Reasonable advice for HIGH mileage engines...

I'm somehow attracted to cars that have anywhere from 150k to 300k miles. Typically, 10w-30 is my cup of tea. I used to use Valvoline only, even Synpower only... but I have noticed that synthetic does seem to clean the dirt deposits around gaskets out fairly quickly. Now, I'm after saving $$$...
