    Performance-oriented Dexron III fluids?

Redline D4 ATF, Amsoil ATF torque-drive, Mobil 1 ATF are all well-tested for GM manual transmissions requiring DEX III.....ideally not those in original trans with paper lined friction rings. The only fluid Tremec recommends in the old T56's requiring Dex III is the Mobil 1 ATF. The GM...

    Dead Washing Machine

I would also verify that the tub is properly centered (ie those centering springs mounted to the floor are doing their job). A slightly out of balance machine can do weird stuff, including overload the motor. Check the actual springs are tight and even at the floor. If one is starting to pull...

Another dying wash machine Samsung front load

We got our Maytag top loader "used" back in 1993. No idea how old it was then. Last year I made my first ever repair to it by fixing a floor spring mount that inadvertently rotted through....cost me $3 in parts....1 hour of my labor. Still going strong after 4 full loads per week average...

Don't forget about your clutch fluid

I'm not so sure that clutch fluid doesn't circulate somewhat. I've done feed and bleeds with syringes on my T56 clutch reservoir with excellent results after several cycles. The first time I did it the fluid was 12 years old and very dark. 3 cycles of changing the reservoir fluid and about 30...

What happened to licensed ATF clones?

GM originally came out and said the Dex lll in their manual transmissons (T56) was replaced by Dex VI. Then they figured out that the viscosity drop from 7.5 to 5.8 wasn't all that acceptable. And they came out with another fluid with a viscosity >7.0 just for the old manual...

Dealer damaged panel & paint during service - how far do I take it?

They shouldn't have sent to this to a body/paint shop without your prior approval. At that point you could have gotten several estimates from reputable shops you use. But if it doesn't come out nice and matching the other panels, keep sending it back to them. You also have the BBB and state DMV...

    Fram Ultra Bad?

You still got 5 filters for under $5 each. Wow. I wouldn't complain about that one bit. Normally these 6 packs sell for $36-$40 on line.

where do private parties go to sell cars now?

I bought my last car 20 months ago via CL. I checked within a 200 mile radius of what I was looking for. Found about a dozen cars that met the general critiera. Had it down to a couple after a few days. Then another car popped up at that same time I was first to call on it. Price was right at...

    Oatmeal or cereal?

Oatmeal is far healthier in most cases. And avoid the fluffy processed Quaker Oats....or Granola's loaded with sugars....and get something closer to the original Oat grain such as Steel Cut Oats.

    Quaker State Ultimate in 0W20

In Virginia's climate no difference in cold weather performance between 0w-20 or 5w-20.... though in warmer weather the 5w will be better....even 10w-30. Pennzoil Plat in the same grades is the same or better. And the factory rebates with the Pennzoil are usually better.

    Purolator PureOne Failure! 11k Miles

10K-11K miles? That's amazing life out of one of those. I never go past the 3000-4000 mi with regular Purolators. I wouldn't run a cheap filter to 5K miles either. Why not just put a Fram ultra guard (or equivalent) on there for $9 and go 10K-12K miles with it?

    My latest dealership sales experience

With a dozen or so new car dealership attempts over the years, I've never had a satisfactory experience. A couple of ok ones at smaller used car dealerships. My most notable: offered one of the largest dealers in the state $3K for a used Crown Vic they had on the lot....listed for $3400. They...

    Windows 10 Upgrade Guide

So what will happen to windows 7 users that just "do nothing." When I had my first home computer with either Windows 95 or 98 I never allowed updates....didn't trust MS I guess. IIRC that system went about 5 yrs before it finally ran into issues and it came time to get a new computer and OS...

How long to wait before asking guy to pick up his car?

I assume you have no insurance on that car while in your "storage" area. That could make you responsible if there is damage to it. To me, contracted storage implies insurance. More things to consider.

How long to wait before asking guy to pick up his car?

If there's no written contract for storage fees then it never happened. No money owed. Your word against theirs. I predict this will end up on Judge Judy.

    FL820S Cut Open - '08 Lincoln Navigator 5.4

For years many members have shown their cut open used filters....the vast majority (90%?) never show an issue. So it is SOMETHING when you open one and things are torn or ripped apart. That doesn't just happen from cutting one open...at least not in the 90%+ of other cases. I stopped using...
