    Driving while sparking

How about driving while tossing? On I-95 on a Sunday, following a company van years ago, driving a bit erratically. Next thing you know cans, bottles, wrappers, and just junk are being tossed out of the front windows for a couple minutes. It was like going to the dump day. What you might do in...

    Social Security

If your wife/significant other's earnings fall well short of your own, they might fare better collecting at 50% of your rate. And they can start collecting the FULL amount at age 65. One can easily check the tables and see what the % drop is if you collect 1 yr or more early. Last I checked it...

    Change of diet!

That's actually a pretty modest lunch or dinner plate there. Looks to be about 700-1000 cal. Fairly healthy foods even with the bun. You won't get particularly fat eating that....unless you pile 1,000+ cal in sugars and other fats on top of it for dessert.

    Rislone Additive success??

I'd use one of the Lubeguard additive products before using Rislone. Lubeguard knows transmission and their stuff has a good track record of actually improving your transmission.

Would changing oil by hour be better than miles?

Use both hours and miles on passenger vehicles. On some simpler OLM's the hours might be a linear function. But there should be more points scored for hours outside normal operating temps. OLM systems from GM, Ford and Chrysler are basing the oil change interval on actual data from the...

What’s the most expensive car new that you bought used?

1997 LIncoln Continental - MSRP $39,000. Bought one in 2001 with 29K miles for $5,000. It served me fairly well for 8 yrs getting to 232,000 miles until a water pump failure seized the engine.

    My 68 L36

Can't tell if the car is blue or black. But if black, that's anything but a Pain Jane. All factory produced black muscle cars from the 60's and early 70's are quite scarce and highly sought after. The only engines available for the 1969 Vette were the std 350 or the 4 variants of the 427. The...

    Five Gees

If you look harder for disease at the doctor's office, they will find it. Everyone has to remain fully employed. And they new names for all these diseases too. Over the past 40 yrs there has been a large increase in general exposure to the population: Sun's UV rays...... chemical exposure from...

    Tips for sealing radiator hose

I always used red Loctite sealant (516 or 518) and it always sealed up any drips whether on new or old hoses....and I always used the orig factory spring clamps.

Whole Life Insurance as Retirement Planning Investment

Unless you have a crystal ball on when you're going to pass away, whole life is a poor investment for most people. Use the cheaper Term Life for that. Put all that money that would have been going to whole life policy premiums into your long term investment account(s) strategy....stocks, bonds...

    When to replace a battery?

I went 3 yrs on a battery similar to yours....total of 6 yrs. At the 3 yr point it had fluid level well below the cell tops and lots of sulfation. Was lucky to bring it back with a lot of charging. 6 yrs total was fine with me. I replaced it once it acted up again. I'm sure the capacity was...

    General Altimax RT43

My Lincoln daily drivers have been on several sets of Michelin Primacy MXV4's since 2001 over a total of around 365K miles. I was going to try the General Altimax RT43 due to all the "good things" I heard about them on other sites. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll just stick to the Michelins...

I Catch Colds at the Drop of a Hat Ever Since ...

Our immune systems weaken as we age. It takes work to keep them as strong as it was in our teens to forties. Your "colds" could also be allergies if you notice your nose running a lot. Asthma has some of the symptoms of colds. I learned the hard way. Antioxidant foods to boost your immune...

    Who has use or loose?

My last long term employer had a use it or lose it policy for salaried employees. At the 15 yr point with them I had "lost" about 6 months of vacation time. Most of that was due to company "needs" when other more senior people altered schedules and events to encroach on my 2-4 weeks of annual...

How long can I push this oil fill?

Filter should be good to 4K regardless if it's a year old. If the oil is a year old and this is a short tripper vehicle, just change the oil. Do the filter next time around.

Dexron 6 or Dexron VI ???

I read an article earlier today about GM coming up with a Dex IV and immediately getting rid of it. One could say that Toyota's T-IV is in effect like a Dex IV as it's an improvement over the expired Dex III's yet not of the same low viscosity of a Dex VI.

    Mustang 4r70w atf recommendation

Maxlife is certainly good stuff and well liked. However, it's not the correct, higher viscosity requirement for the Mercon V job. (7.4 cSt vs. 5.8 cSt). Must have been a reason why Ford chose the higher viscosity.

All my daily drivers for the past 18 yrs have required Mercon V. And Super Tech is the best choice imo.
