Axle splines stuck in the knuckle

For any future jobs requiring the use of penetrating oil (such as axle shaft splines), I highly recommend Kroil. PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench is ok but Junior Varsity compared to this stuff. I’d often grab the Kroil before the smoke wrench back in my wrenchin’ days. Just some friendly advice...

    2019 RAM 1500 Sport update - 115,000km

“It could have been preloaded too much with negative preload. This would markedly reduce bearing life. No miracle lubricant will help with any of the above conditions.” ^^^ This ^^^

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

Yep, discovered that in my research Z. Thanks @OVERKILL. Big fan of Donaldsons as Diesel is my background and am employed by large Diesel/Truck OEM. I did research that particular part number, however they seem to have a similar glue issue as MC. The vid below is 2 years old so they may have...

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

Thanks @MrCoyote. Been looking at those as well based on recommendations here. Next oil change I’ll probably try one. Using Carquest Premium (Vietnam) right now.

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

So true @Glenda W. , unfortunately. It’s been in the low teens here lately in NC mornings. My OCI’s are 5k max on M1 EP or Valvoline EP. (Save it everybody. I do 5k because I want to 😂😆) Seeing the sloppy glue on these MC filters had me concerned about bypass events. Not from excess delta p...

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

@ZeeOSix The date code is 2024. I always put mileage and date on the can with sharpie. Tried cleaning the sharpie off with brake-clean to read the rest of code and yep…you guessed it, remaining date code came off. 😂😆😂😆 So there’s that!

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

Hey @TheOilWizard. I hope you don’t mind me hijacking your thread for a minute. Adding my pics as well. Most concerning is the loose glue up near the bypass valve area and inside (clean side) of the tube. On a positive note, at least the louvers looked good 😆😂. Absolutely done with Motorcraft. I...

HPL 20w50 vTwin for Harley M8

Received an email response from HPL (Outstanding customer service BTW). The 20w50 vtwin is in fact formulated for the engine only. They have a separate primary oil and other motorcycle oils for engine/wet clutch applications that I did see on their site. Still, I wanted to confirm. Pretty sure...

HPL 20w50 vTwin for Harley M8

Yes, I did Evo. That thread was the first to come up in my search. Was just curious to hear from any others who may be using this oil. The 721 ppm of Moly in that UOA peaked my interest as to whether HPL formulated this as an engine only oil vs. engine / wet clutch oil. The image is blurry but...

HPL 20w50 vTwin for Harley M8

I’ve run M1 vtwin and Amsoil vtwin pretty consistently with absolutely no issues- both outstanding oils. But, both can be used in all 3 holes. M8’s do not share a sump so friction modifiers in the engine oil is not a concern. Again, M1 and Amsoil- fantastic oils, no complaints from me whatsoever...

HPL 20w50 vTwin for Harley M8

Did a quick search in the various forums. Looks like a scant few have run it. Anyone else? Thoughts?

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

I don’t believe so. If I’m not mistaken, the ‘yotes use a small dab of RTV at the front cover to cylinder head joint. Not sure if they use dabs at the front cover to oil pan joint( I would think they would). Excess RTV typically, and I emphasize typically, in my career is stopped at the pickup...

I’ll check on Monday. Filter carcass is at work.

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

You’re right, Z. The glue is more like a thin layer of black RTV.

    FL500s (with even more glue!)

Cut mine open yesterday after changing oil in the coyote. Unfortunately, my filter looked exactly like yours- lots of loose glue, some even up near the bypass valve. Switching over to Carquest Premium based on the numerous positive reviews and quality images I’ve seen here.

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

That’s a great point @ZeeOSix. I’m from Southeast MI and have a few old Ford contacts in engineering. Doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll divulge anything to me and can’t remember where in engineering they were/are but I’ll give it a shot. I am half-a$$ expecting them to say, “just use Motorcraft...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Thanks @OVERKILL , I appreciate it. Based on everything I’ve read so far, I’ve concluded it should be safe. It’s the skeptic in me…the “too good to be true”. Add the fact that I have a belt driven oil pump now, and it’s been a festering thought because I may elect to use this oil long term...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Hello all. Been researching the VRP for a while on this site and others. My question / concern is could there be any effect on wet belts with constant use of VRP? I realize this isn’t a harsh solvent like Premium Blue Restore, but I often wonder if there is, or will be any effect on the belt...
