    '02 Camry rear hub removal

Yeah it will but the entire backing plate and drum brake assembly will probably come off, from there you will have to chisel the hub off from the backing plate. Have fun and get your swear words ready. Last time I did one it took me 3 hours. Just be glad it's not a Subaru or Ford explorer.

ridiculous consumption of GDI engine oil 110k miles

Only if not properly maintained. No matter what the manual says or if it's synthetic the oil really should be changed every 3000 miles or 5000km on these engines. They are very hard on oil.

ridiculous consumption of GDI engine oil 110k miles

The rings are probably clogged up. First, replace the pcv valve, those are a common failure item on these engines if they don't get frequent oil changes, second, do a piston soak with B12 and if you can find it in your country, I very highly recommend BG EPR, follow the directions on the can and...

Accent GDI intake ports and valves at 230k

I've used everything from seafoam to pro grade BG products. All of it works, some of it works better, the last two services I used Lucas deep clean GDI cause it was on sale. The CRC and BG intake valve cleaners are probably the most effective and what id recommended to someone trying to remove...

Accent GDI intake ports and valves at 230k

Does doing an intake induction service every 10k actually work? I think the photos speak for themselves! 😎 I've seen much worse on other GDI engines with only 60k. I use full saps oil too which is supposed to make the problem worse. It's been about 5k since the last treatment with mostly cold...

    Just compression tested the Accent.

I will probably do them all at some point, it's actually been on my preventative maintenance list of things to do for awhile but funds are tight right now and with as much garbage that's being pumped through the automotive parts chain post COVID I'm very leery to replace parts that haven't...

    Just compression tested the Accent.

Unfortunately it's likely the electrical part that's malfunctioning, only way it would set that code on the code set criteria and the funny symptoms I've been having have been intermittent in a way that points to an electronic failure. I had an intermittent misfire on cylinder 2 a while back and...

    Just compression tested the Accent.

Had a power balance code pointing to the injector on cylinder 2, but just to cross all my T's and dot all my I's I checked the compression before ordering one. Spec is 156(min)-177(standard)psi or above, at 230,098 miles it's making over 180psi. Very happy with that result and just wanted to...

Are DIY friendly autos going to become a trend?

No. Some are worse than others. I'm a professional mechanic and I hate working on transverse V6 engines. The GM 3.6l is one of the worst. Motor mount, upper radiator hose, and entire TIPM assembly have to come out to get the alternator off and even then you have like 1.5" of working room and you...

Grease / Anti-Seize - Replacing CV AXLE and would like to know best practice

The only time I've ever seen an axle seize to the hub to the point a hammer tap couldn't break it free is when someone drove around too long on a bad wheel bearing and the heat essentially fused it to the hub.

post your latest transmission lubricant change.

2016 Hyundai Accent 229,643 miles Out: Valvoline Maxlife In: Valvoline Maxlife Extended Protection No idea what's different about the EP but it's not really any more expensive than regular Maxlife. It definitely smells different, normal Maxlife smells like eggnog, this one has more of a burnt...

I've been using Maxlife for over 100k on the same transmission it's great stuff.

Post your latest engine/cabin air filter change

2016 Hyundai Accent 1.6l ~229,000 miles Out: Fram Ultra air filter In: STP premium air filter. Not a fan of the Fram. Last two filters were frams and compared to the STP red filter they capture visibly less dirt and have poor flow even new. Out of all the filters I've tried the STP has the...

Don't use Brake Cleaner on Transmission Pan?

I've done it plenty of times. There's no paint or anything to worry about dissolving, obviously just be sure it's completely dry before reinstalling.

Why/ why not run oil level at MIN?

Or to suck up into the valvetrain/cam phasers under high RPM. I have actually seen timing codes set with oil just at or below the minimum because the cam phasers wouldn't get enough oil at high RPM to retard the timing.

3.6 Pentastar viscosity done by clearance and temperature

This is the same chart I compared my Hyundai Accent to, and it led me to pick 5w40 in the winter and 15w50 in summer. At 230,000 miles the engine is in just as good a shape as it was at 60,000. If maximum wear protection is more important than a small difference in gas mileage, viscosity is...

Glad I don't rely on shops for basic service.

Yeah I often have to clean out the bores the slide pins ride in with a brush, penetrating oil, and brake parts cleaner before regreasing them or nothing slides/fits correctly because of the hardened grease/rust mixture.

2019 Hyundai Tucson 2.0 GDI, 5,750 OCI PP 5w-20. Engine failed 5k later.

If you do buy one I recommend nothing lower than 0w-40 and premium gas, most of the GDI engines will knock on regular and 5w-20 doesn't give sufficient wear protection.

Subaru Rear Wheel Bearings: How difficult are they?

Nor gonna lie, I've seen many wheel bearings and other automotive parts rusted so good you could take all the bolts out and drive it 50,000 miles and it'd still be rock solidly connected.
