Annoying rev hang in my MT car

This helps... ...get rid of the CDV. I 'pioneered' CDV removal for the 5spd TSI MK7, as previously only GTI 6spds were doing it. I knew something felt "off" compared to my older stick shift vehicles. Found the CDV, removed it, and much better. Main reason for me, was that the CDV delayed the...

    Gas Prices Are Going Up

Instead of complaining, the smart people buy more efficient vehicles and not gas guzzlers for daily/solo driving. *work vehicles excepted I think gas prices should be higher - lets actually get newer, safer roads out of it! Rebuild our infrastructure to interact with all of the new safety tech...

Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

I have zero issues, why would I tear it apart - that is what I use the additives to prevent doing! Magic. Just like your Noack. OP - we need you to settle this, as we've sidetracked your thread too long. Flip a coin and let us know who "won" the internet today.

Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

Point is my "solution" works great. Evidence: zero carbon issues in use. Other VW owners have carbon-cleaned their 1.8T GDI during my ownership period. Maybe you should try it.

Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

I need before and after. :D I went the additive route, after reading of others using catch cans and not really knowing what difference, if any, they made. Plenty of owners will do zero and not have an issue, also. But we can't spell BITOG without OCD.

Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

If it helped VWs why wouldn't it help other GDI engines? Change my mind ;) My turbo GDI is not the same engine that exhibited issues of build-up, but I figured a little preventative additives sure wouldn't hurt. I chose LC20 as it was mentioned to "liquify carbon" (BITOG days of yore) - along...

Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

Were you expecting a white paper? I'm more trusting of people's opinions of RLI as they worked with Terry Dyson through the issue. Much better "data" than "hey guys, put some TCW3 in your gas tank". 99.9% of forums are opinions. As I said, I make your own conclusion. I only own one turbo DI...

Reading for ya. Make your own conclusion.

Quality oil for Subaru Ascent FA2.4F

I think if you're really worried about DI turbo issues, use RLI Bio-Plus in the fuel (1oz / 15gal - so a gallon lasts many miles) and maybe also LC20 in the oil. That's been my regimen with my VW. No issues. Settled on this path after researching the old VW/Audi carbon buildup issues. Terry...

    pop uptents

Since you have a backup, you could go with a cheap and/or popup tent. If you didn't have a real shelter for wind and other bad weather, I'd say stay away from bad tents. Wind will kill them or simply prevent you from sleeping due to the noise / potential collapsing.

When to stop working and retire?

We're ready now (40), but unfortunately won't have the money, so we have to wait. Ages 50/51 is the long end. Hope to pull the plug before then or move to part time (80%?, 3-4 day work weeks sounds right) work from 45-50ish, maybe. We'll see how it all plays out, though.

    Skipping a meal

Actually... Newer studies are looking at when you eat those calories. Timing/fast is actually a factor. While you may not lose weight vs non IF (intermittent fasting) with the same caloric intake, there may be additional benefits (studies are needed in humans)...

    Altered California license plates?

I think the black and yellow and the blue and yellow should stay on the vintage cars that they belong on. My first car was a '68 Volvo 122s and had the original plates, almost 30 years old when I bought it. Now you can just pay extra to get them - at least the DMV figured out a way to get more...

    Markup on wine in restaurants

Yes. That's why we love and married each other. Similar financial goals. Realization that we can buy a whole six pack and bottle of wine and drink it at the hotel or beach vs overpaying for one drink at the restaurant. We rarely dine out. Restaurants are such a waste of money. Her home meals...

One step away from the Stone Age

Yes. You need to learn the lesson that wind and solar had nothing to do with this. Texas' desire for an independent grid and "you can't tell us what to do" attitude is much more culpable.

The energy advocacy paradox/fear of adoption

Eat less beef to make up for it? Its about balance. If you care enough about your impact, do at least the minimum that lets you sleep well at night. Everything in moderation; including moderation. Luckily for us, I'm too cheap to buy a gas-guzzling vehicle, so that automatically limits our...

Some households in Texas face electricity bills of $10,000

25% of Texas energy is wind sourced. How would more coal and nuke plants have prevented this? This wasn't due to 25% of energy not being available. Their infrastructure was not winterized. They were warned of this 10 years ago. They didn't want gov't intervention ("you can't tell me what to...
