Soon acquiring an 09 cobalt for next to nothing. Anything I should know?

I have an '07 that I bought at 85k miles for $1800 from a sad Dad whose son OD'ed in it. The Dad just wanted to be done with it and all the related bad memories. The timing had been done shortly before I bought it. Now at 185k miles with no major issues. Had the fuel line rust out as others...

    Scion tC long crank time

@researcher Pressure didn't leak down immediately; from 38 psi (key off) to 22 psi over 3 hours. I put new NGK 3764 plugs (Iridium but not laser Iridium) in it less than 1k miles ago. I had a can of MAF cleaner so I went ahead and cleaned the sensor. After taking my fuel gauge out (no...

    Scion tC long crank time

Thanks for the info. Good to know that it doesn't "prime" every time. I haven't paid attention to how quickly the pressure leaks off yet. I will do some testing on this. Yes, the pump is very quiet; a high pitch whine that is barely audible as you describe. 237k miles

Farmall 656 Gas - Low Ash Oil

Some people say the older gas Farmall tractor have a tendency to burn valves due to deposits left behind from modern oils. Most recomend a low ash 30W oil from Case IH dealers. Any other options out there?

    Scion tC long crank time

No engine light or codes. No service history. Need to look it up and see if there is a fuel filter. I have searched various forums but couldn't find much on fuel pressure or long crank times. The thing that bothers me most is that it doesn't prime with key on but rather when the cranking...

    Scion tC long crank time

2006 Scion tC. Purchased in December for a soon-to-be teenage driver. Seems like it has a long crank time; generally about 4-5 seconds. One time it was a no start for a few minutes until I tried again several minutes later. Suspecting a fuel delivery problem, I hooked up a gauge to monitor...

Automatic emergency braking literally saved my cars tail from a brick wall.

Did you signal your lane change? Shouldn't that have 'cancelled' the automatic braking? Just wondering. My newest vehicle is a 2008 so the only time I drive something nicer is when I travel for work and get a rental. edit: Or maybe signaling a lane change only works with adaptive cruise control?

    Wander-around junkyard vs. inventoried junkyard

I have have 3 yards within 15-45 minutes from my work or home that I will email or call asking them if they have a part I'm looking for. Not sure if they are inventoried or not; I just wait for them to email me back. It used to be 4 yards but the nearest one to me just closed down. I like...

    Repair it or retire it

Personally, I'd fix it. At a minimum, get another opinion and quote from a different mechanic. I don't know this particular car, but $600 seem high.

Trying to save an otherwise junkyard bound car

@Number_35 - My teenager drove it for another 20 months and put another 13k miles on it. Then it died an early death when he rear-ended some lady because he was looking at his phone. I ended up selling it for a $400 cash to some Saturn nut who wanted it for parts. He basically paid me scrap...

Where to buy car repair manuals ?

Many libraries offer free access to Alldata or similar services. Some require you to be inside their facility but my friend on the other side of the state was able to get a remote login for Alldata through his local library.

Is P0430 specific to converter issues?

I know a guy who installed one of these on a very high mileage vehicle. His cat plugged so he rodded it out and that turned off his light. Prior to that, he had tried spacers with no luck.

What makes brakes wear like this?

Yes, pads and rotors all around. There were two caliper pins totally froze up so I ended up putting a new bracket on one of the front wheels because it was totally filled with rust. I'm still waiting on a new bracket and caliper for one of the rear wheels to come in from Rockauto. That one was...

    2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3 - Maintenance & Repairs

I bought a used 2005 with the 3.8L for $3200 back in December 2014 after my 2000 Chevrolet Venture blew a head gasket 400 miles from home. My wife and I still prefer the interior and seating comfort of the Venture but the Grand Caravan has been more dependable. We bought it with 116k miles on...

What makes brakes wear like this?

Blows my mind a bit that the rust is more "durable" than the rest of the rotor surface but this explanation makes as much sense as any. I can feel "grooves" in the pad over top the rusty areas. Too bad the previous owner just did a pad slap.

What makes brakes wear like this?

Sorry, my original post wasn’t clear. Yes, at least 1 caliper pin is frozen and another is extremely dry. Pistons push in OK. I pulled everything off last night so I could figure out what I needed to order. I decided to get a full set of pads with clips, rotors, and caliper pins. The pads are...
