    Chraftsman, USA vs. China

I sold all my later USA made (2008-2009) craftsman stuff on ebay about 6 months ago. For the price people paid for USA stuff I was able to replace almost all of it with better tools. Ended up with tekton sockets, sunex impacts, snap on ratchets, vessel screw drivers, and wright grip wrenches...

    Pad change issue

They did not, bought the explorer used so unsure if they where oem or aftermarket. From what I can gather the springs where added by ford to deal with corrosion under the slide clips. Called dealer and they pulled a set for me. It had springs.

    Pad change issue

Disregard original post. I'm an idiot. Pulled caliper off today (had to bleed brakes anyways) and they are just fine. when looking from the outside of the caliper there was a gap at the edge do to the chamfer on the pads. Did not even register. Sorry guys.

    Pad change issue

pads are exact same size, appears some come with the spring clips and some not. Going to pull em apart and snip them off if needed tomorrow.

    Pad change issue

The springs im talking about are the ones on the side of the pads, here is a pic for ref. My stock pads did not have them.

    Pad change issue

Changed the pads and rotors on my 2016 explorer today (z36 and centric premium). The new pads have clips/springs on the side of the pads I assume to keep them off the rotors and cut down on rattle. The old pads did not have these. Once installed and drove around I noticed the springs/clips are...

Is Japan the last bastion for affordable enthusiast sports cars?

Think it was 2005-2006 they both used the ej25 but the sti had different internals and a bigger turbo/intercooler.

Ford AWD PTU lubricant change - first time in 100K miles

I used a cheap amazon pump that hooks up to your battery to drain mine, laying in the ground and getting the hose past all the gears in the PTU was a pain in the ass. Once drained (really black and stinky but not sludgy) I filled it with basic redline 75w140. Ran the engine for 10ish min and...

    Weeping FRAM Ultra XG2

Had the same issue with a xg2 filter, I just cranked it down harder and leak stopped. It was a quick oil change in cold weather so seating surface could of been dirty.

    PTU oil choice?

How many miles? I change the PTU fluid in my explorer a few weeks ago. No drain plug so had to suck it out with a pump. It was black and smelled really bad. Filled with Redline 75w140 and then drained it again. Filled with Redline 75w140 and closed her up. Plan to do this every 15-20k. Might...

    Ford PTU's and Oil choices

Changed the fluid yesterday with some Redline 75w-140. Used a cheap $20 pump from amazon to suck fluid out (huge pain in the [censored]). Fishing that small plastic tube down past the gears was rough. Drained and filled it 2x to try and flush old fluid out. Fluid that came out (about 10oz) was...

    Ford PTU's and Oil choices

Ended up going with the Redline 75w140. @ $17.99 a bottle it was cheaper than the Motorcraft stuff. If I get more than 25-30k out of it I will be very happy.

    Ford PTU's and Oil choices

I had planned on Redline regardless of weight. Would you advise 75w140, 80w140, or Lightweight Shockproof. As you said its going to be a pain to change without a lift or even a compressor for a decent vac pump. I would prefer the best option for the longest fill I can get.

    Ford PTU's and Oil choices

I have a 2016 Ford Explorer Limited with the 3.5 NA v6. I need to change my PTU fluid. It calls for 75w140 but due to the huge heat load and small filling capacity of this unit I was wondering if you guy would advise using something different. Maybe a synthetic 80w140 or even Redline Lightweight...
