Bought 6 quarts of Valvoline R&P 5W-30 and an AC Delco PF-63 oil filter for my company truck 2015 Silverado 1500 w/ 4.3 V6. Also ordered a new AC Delco air filter and picked up an STP cabin filter.

Picked up 16 qts. of Napa synthetic 0W-20 on sale for the Tundra. Since the engine is under recall for replacement I decided to switch away from HPL and Schaeffer for the time being.

Thank you all for the responses! I actually ended up purchasing a Tundra w/17k miles on it instead of the GMC a couple of months ago. Unfortunately the 3.4 TT in it is now being recalled. Fingers crossed that Toyota does a good job with handling the recall because the new Tundra really does...

Really no difference that I can tell. Oil pressure once warmed up seems to a hair higher than with 0W-20, but outside of that fuel economy is the same and it doesn’t sound any different. I have two changes of 5W-30 and then I might try out some HPL 10W-20, or Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30.

Just got 4 gallons of HPL Euro No VII 5W-30 and a Toyota 90915-10010. Thought I might try this out for the next couple of oil changes in the Tundra.

Thank you, I still have two more filters I need to cut open so I should get some practice 😀. HPL and a Fram FS10575 went back in. Unfortunately I won’t be able to see the results as I sold the truck a week ago. Now to figure out what to run the in the new one lol!

I’ll have to take the media off, but out in the sunlight I could see little black specks of carbon material between the pleats as well. I used Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 from when I purchased the truck at 30k miles until 104k, then switched to Schaeffer 5W-30 until 160k. Then HPL 5W-40 to 175k.

Here’s the filter from the last OCI on my F-150 5.0 before I traded it. It had 7,435 miles with HPL P.P. 5W-40, this was the second run on HPL with 2k of HPL E.C. 30 on the run before that. I was amazed at the amount of carbonaceous material that was in the filter given this truck had quality...

Critic, hopefully that can be prevented, or if it does happen hopefully it’s still under warranty. This is the first vehicle that I’ve ever taken out the extended warranty on. Between the twin turbo v6 and all the other gadgetry it didn’t seem like such a bad choice.
