Costco probably wants to be a little more on the up and up and not make mileage claims. They know it will work fantastic at the manufacturer recommended changes if it meets their spec.

It will be fine at your 5000 interval, are you still doing the free services every 10,000? If so, this will not cause any warranty issues either since they won't know you did extra changes. 5000 is fine on that oil, it's a good oil. The TBN will be much higher on the Euro oils, to help you...

Interesting that this mentions a 3.3 percent fuel economy improvement, when that's something many users of Restore and Protect report. I just wish they'd make a 40 weight.

My Costco has HM M1 5w-30 in the warehouse too. I sometimes order the 0w-40 online, it seems like it is still there.

I wouldn't say they use especially low quality oil. However, if you have a vehicle of the last fifteen years or so with no leaks, why not use a synthetic? The off the shelf market (Walmart, auto parts store) has moved to primarily synthetic.

PCV system was replaced less than a year ago. Based on other UOAs with Valvoline oils, this seems right in line with what their oils do at this mileage. I don't think it's a problem. :)

The ones I've used, the 5 quart jug mentions all the marketing terms "liquid shield," etc. The quart doesn't.

It was between EP and conventional oil. I'm mixed on the results with EP. It was certainly yellow, but 10,000 mile drains with a turbo, etc. They were probably easier miles than what most of us do though with idling, short trips, etc. I loved that video though. I wish more manufacturers...
