Preparing to tow a trailer 1200 miles

Empty weight 1920lbs. Escape 3.0L with tow package rated for 3500lbs. With a mower I would think he would be around 2500lbs(ish). Trailer frontal area is marginal though.

Preparing to tow a trailer 1200 miles

I recently pulled two of those trailers, probably much more heavily loaded than yours from Virginia to Tennessee, and once pulled one from South Dakota to Louisiana to Virginia. Years ago I pulled one with a 2005 Dodge Ram QC 4x4, 4.7 V8 and one with a 2002 Trailblazer 4.2L 4WD. Recently with...

    Bypass filters.

I think he referenced transmissions- 41TE. I think for transmissions they are an excellent idea.

    Pre-assembled struts

Not really a rust issue. I am unable to find a Monroe quik-strut for an 09 Grand Caravan, or they would be my first choice. I put monroe shocks on the back.

    Pre-assembled struts

All- I think the strut bearings are going bad on my van. The shock portion of the strut seems to be working well. I am thinking about hooking up a set of Unity strut assemblies, replacing them myself then having the van aligned. Any issues with that I should be aware of? It seems to me like a...

    Mobil 1 5w30 for 2012 golf tdi ok? ....

I have heard amazing things about Mobil 0w-40 on this site. I have only used it once, on a CLK430. I will say this- if the manufacturer calls for something like Mobile One 0w-40, there is a really good reason for it, and you should use it, no questions asked.

Ever had suspension fasteners come loose?

Yes....same exact situation on my van. Impossible to get a torque wrench on the top bolts. I went with "tight as heck" the second time. Much mo better.

The Army’s Impact on the Fuel and Lubricant Ind.

Now the Army is trying for a one oil standard, 15w-40 in engines AND transmissions. The FMTV family uses the same oil in the engines as the transmissions.....crazy, but it works, and it saves a step in logistics for sure.

    Firearms rust prevention

I like CLP. I also like WD40. I used to wipe my shotgun down with it before duckhunting in brackish water, it worked very well. Also, my patrol shotgun sat in my trunk 24/7 in Louisiana....very humid. WD40 wipedowns every two weeks and she was GTG (REM 870). If you can get it military LSA lube...

NHTSA pushes for nationwide Takata airbag recall

Geographical recalls are stupid. What if the vehicle is sold used out of state? Or you spend a few months of the year in a humid state? The product works as designed in all reasonable conditions or it does not. End of story.

    Reusing transmission filter. Opinions.

There is a big difference between a rock catcher and a typical in pan filter. A rock catcher in my book is the in-pan filter on my early Torq-shift. It is a fine metal mesh. The oil is actually filtered with a bypass filter in-line to the cooler. Trans filters with actual media really do...

OCI, how hard was it to extend from 3K miles to..?

It was hard for me. It is really hard for me lately. I like to get under my vehicles and do work. I havent had to change oil on my F250 since August, and I am only at 2k. It may be almost spring before I get to 5k at this rate. I will probably change it at 4k just because even at a 4k interval...
