    “Arctic Pipeline” bringing cold weather

I checked the 10 day and it sure looks like a Northern Illinois January forecast. Guess we're missing out on this one.

Had to buy a battery today.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this. My Edge's battery died a few months ago and the replacement was $240.

Why owning a home is so pricey ...

I'm not moving until I'm taxed out of this place. I hope to make it to retirement first.

    Weekly Lease Payments

If I'm reading right, the base line MSRP of that is just over $35k. That pricing has to be leasing on left and purchasing on right. No way you pay $39k to lease a $35k truck for 5 years and 4 months.

    Party City closing all stores

They've had financial issues for awhile. I think they declared bankruptcy at some point. I read they closed the offices earlier this month and pulled a team out of a conference (safety issue as they weren't paying their bills). So I guess the news didn't surprise me.

Big lots to close all stores

I know of one locally. Think it was still open. Never been in it. What do they sell?

Should McDonald's go back to this menu?

The beans are dried and they mix in hot water on site. Obviously, shipping dried food is a lot lighter and it really doesn't have an expiration date. The meat is cryovaced in bags and reheated in boiling water. Both of these are done for product consistency and efficiency of preparation...

Accord for my year, but everyone was driving Olds Broughams (pronounced "Bro ham" by us)

Illinois woman’s property tax is poised to pop from $756 to over $10,000

I remember when that went through. There was a rush to have the land rezoned so it wouldn't be treated like residential. She's been getting a deal and probably knew about it. Secondly, Illinois property taxes stay in the county. Two-thirds of our bills stay in the school districts. Add up...

Never had a garage or even a car port

Gosh, that was a life goal of mine - a garage. Grew up without one. Had to rent at the beginning. Finally got an attached one and it's so convenient for this kind of stuff. Park in it, open the hood to heat it up, come back 30 minutes later to do the work. I feel for you. Been there. Yuck.

    Chi-Chi's Restaurants coming back

Great place when they prepared and cooked the food on site. Then they went to pre-made and reheat and it just wasn't the same. I'll certainly go back to see what's going on...

    Taking up Vinyl Flooring

We just had this issue. The tiles on the cement slab were next to impossible to remove. It took a pro an hour to get 10 square feet removed. I opted to just do an overlay and it's been great. The same tiles came up pretty easily off of the wood sub-flooring upstairs.

Average credit card debt by state graphic

I thought $6K (my quick estimate of the national average) was a little low until I figured there are as many in debt $12K as there are $0K. Thankfully, I'm on the $0K side now and that's not changing.

    Insane CA DMV Registration Tax

Gosh, I would take 1% any day. It's been a high as 4%, but currently is around 3.3%. It just went up over $800 and a new referendum passed for the school district kicks in next year, so I'd guess another $800 increase. I know a few people that have been taxed out of their homes. It's sad...

    Insane CA DMV Registration Tax

My dad (lives in CA) has a Dodge pickup that peaked at $601 one year. Insane. But he pays $3700 a year in property taxes on a 900k property. Mine is worth a third of that and I'm over $9k a year. They all get you. One way or another.
