    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

Yes I did change the oil. I was able to swap for the correct OEM filters yesterday, and I'll most likely change that filter tonight and top back off. Yesterday was a bit chaotic so I couldn't get under the car. I will take some photos for the board.

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

I haven't heard any engine sound change, and I do give it a listen outside the vehicle about once a week. All I hear are the injectors firing, and the PCV activating periodically. Perhaps my ear is just not tuned enough.

If you REALLY want to protect your engines..

I both like and dislike the 10 year rule. On the one hand, keeping the vehicle fleet younger makes for cleaner air and forces new safety technologies into the fleet but... being forced to scrap a machine worth thousands would really piss me off. Like pitchforks and torches piss me off. I applaud...

Yeah I'm with Shannow, an HTHS grading system would make more sense

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

That is where I'm looking currently. Some of the Xw-40 are on the list to try. Takes time to put miles on the car. Still haven't figured out her name.

0w-8 in the new non US Yaris hybrid

I would hesitate, but not too much. This is a new engine design yes? It will be designed to run 0w-8 without excess wear. Specific alloys, heat treating, sacrificial coatings, wider journal bearings and other engineering "tricks" are utilized to make an engine ok with such thin oil. Now, do I...

3.5 EcoBoost M1 EP vs M1 ESP vs Rotella Gas Truck

I prefer the higher HTHS 30s but from a practical standpoint, for a 5k OCI they're going to be the same. I'm running M1 HM 10w-30 in my 2.5L GDI turbo for the HTHS, and will be experimenting with some of the Xw-40s going forward. If you're looking for really tough oil, go look at the Euro...

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

It's on the list. I finally got the correct oil filters from the dealer. They come with the filter, gaskets top and bottom, and a new crush washer for the drain bolt. $10.50 + Tax I might try the QS Euro next, as SN+ is allowed in my OM.

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

I'll try one of the Euro oils next like I said. I know you don't like my M1 HM 10w-30 lol. It's a good oil, but it's not as strong as the euro oils because it meets SP. But I don't have to worry about LSPI with this oil either. I really don't want to find out the hard way that LSPI is in fact a...

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

I'm really enjoying mine. Goes fast when needed and economical when speed isn't priority.

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

Looks like a nice oil. I'll add it to the list. The 10w-30 is getting the job done just fine, I'm not noticing any bogging or lack of power once warmed up. I can't speak for WOT when it's cold because I don't do that... I've actually been mostly babying the throttle because I want to see how...

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

So I changed the oil. Hit a problem. The filter that Kia sold me is NOT correct. The filter for the GT is taller and doesn’t have the little screw thing in it. So I have to go see my Kia dealer. Not a good start. Old filter went back on out of necessity. I looked it over real good and didn’t...

PEAK Synthetic is now in the "1yr / 10,000 miles, which ever comes first" business.

I didn't think Peak was in the oil business. It's probably rebadged from one of the big blenders.

I'm running 93 octane. I'd already learned about fuel dilution with turbos and 87 octane. If I could keep my foot out of it I'm sure I'd see better mileage too :)

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

It IS a fun car. I need to get it to a track. Current plan is to run the HM through it as the "flush", then the M1 0w-40 and see how the car likes that. I may try some of the Euro oils. It's all spitballing until that UOA comes back. At least I haven't had anyone telling me to run 0w-20 or...

Oil Suggestions for a new car

I would run an Xw-30 or Xw-40 in a turbo engine.

    Kia K5 GT oil suggestions

Yeah, and I'm not paying $10 a quart. When you can get 5qt of M1 for about $23 and then get $15 back on that 5qt jug it comes to $1.60 a qt. That's a pretty hard deal to pass up. ($1.60 x 6qt) + $11 for the OEM filter = $20.60 for a syn oil change. The quickie lubes are charging as much as $80...
