I've seen techron make oil very dark, I assume because it was cleaning carbon and some of that was dripping through the rings when the engine wasn't running. But if it showed up as anything in UOA I would expect it to show up as some fuel dilution...

This isn't a GDI motor is it? You could run 10k. If you want peace of mind then get a UOA at your next oil change and adjust your OCI accordingly. Everything else is just opinions. I would run a good synthetic, and not worry about it.

You might try a 40 and see if the lifter tick goes away. Just for funsies.

Pick a 5w-30 HM and go forth. It'll be fine for MA winter. Mobil 1, Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Castrol all make good oil. If you want a really tough oil, go with a Euro 5w-30.

It's fine. If you've ever had an oil pan off the bottom of a modern engine, you'll see a piece of sheet metal bolted underneath all the important engine internals that acts as a baffle between the guts of the motor and the sump. This is to prevent windage from the engine internals churning up...

You can and should go up a grade for towing. My opinion.

That's an old video and Hyundai changed the pistons. Plus my car doesn't use cast pistons anyway, the turbos are hypereutectic
