Is "Overlanding" a thing in your area yet?

I don’t sleep easily any more. on nights I can’t sleep I go to a cot in another room. This cot, with three thin pillows she picked up off a etsy, is every bit as comfortable as our bed. I’ve easily spent 120 nights on it. Naturehike GreenWild Camping Cot, Ultralight Folding Backpacking Cot...

Is "Overlanding" a thing in your area yet?

I used to trail camp a lot. Got older. Car camped a lot. Had kids. Went through a few campers. Did the occassional off-path exploration, usually without a buddy so nothing radical. Now I tent camp a couple times per year. If I tent camped quarterly, I’d consider a rooftop tent just because it’s...

What are you working on today?

The brakes should hum and ideally should reach lockup. They should pull 3 amps or so at max per drum. If they aren’t pulling 3 amps (max) per drum at 12V, then there is a wiring fault, or 9 of them, in the trailer. Trailer brake wiring is usually awful, sometimes as they sit new on the lot. I...

Most Miles on a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I had a 2008 RWD 3.7. Seating and ergo was great. WA580 may be one of the best transmissions ever produced. In stock form, in handled very well. I eventually had a 2” lift and slightly larger tires on it. Even as 2WD, it did trails nicely. Headlights were one of the best halogen units I’ve...

Amazon headlights with Osram bulbs...a win

I prefer TYC, but found them to not be identical to Honda units, notably in where and how the clear lens mates with the plastic housing. I saw one set crack at the lock tabs and separate leaving a gap. This was fixed with caulk, because it was a 100k mile vehicle. That not withstanding, the...

Toyota and Lexus hybrid eCVT ATF fluids?

This car won’t care. There are no clutches and very few gears. Me personally, amsoil all the way, and in all fairness it could probably last the life of the car. Maxlife synthetic would also be a solid win as well. Toyota has a win with this transmission.

Got 8x8’ of attic floor down. Shooting for an 8x16’ pad, plus probably 48sq ft of twisted “catwalk” to get there. Will one day be good storage. Why the inspiration for attic work starts every June …idk.

    Michelin Primacy LTX opinions

They are oem on my Tacoma. - quiet - smoother, softer ride - take impacts well - balanced very well - probably won’t see high mileage, softer rubber Not a bad on road tire at all.

    Whats so great about Jeeps?

I’ve owned a number of 4x4 vehicles. The best I ever had in snow was a 2.2L Subaru Legacy wagon with the center diff (not FWD with RWD assist) in a 5MT, no ABS and minor suspension tweaks. It was an highly agile snow rocket until 10” or so.

    Michelin Defender LTX M/S2

We had a good bit of snow here (for the region) 2 years ago. My son has mtx m/s2 on his 4R and I had continental ATs on my F150. We both drove both vehicles here in about 7-9 inches in 2 and 4. I wanted him to experience snow and also appreciated getting a feel for the tires. The continentals...
