Spark Plug Replacement Intervals - Why?

Eventually the plugs become “One with the head” if not removed/replaced. I would never leave originals in for more than 50k before removing and maybe putting them back in with some anti seize on the threads. Also

    Largest displacement now / ever

My Cessna Centurion C210E had an IO520 Continental engine, 285hp. Largest land bound engine was the 283 bored to 292 in my ‘59 Chevy truck.

    5.7 Chevy Engine Questions

Noise on startup that goes away might be piston slap. Which is much better than a rod knock.

What sort of engineer? Because I doubt he was an ME.

    Car Won't Start, No Crank

Just check it at the battery. If the battery is defective or dead the voltage can drop nearly to zero.

    Car Won't Start, No Crank

It may take a second set of hands but you really need to check voltage while the key is in the start position. Or at least try jump starting from a known good battery.

    TiGeo has a new knee

I hope your experience is as good as mine. Had mine done last December. Couldn’t take the Oxy (Crashed my BP!) so the first 2 weeks were absolute Hell. But once I got going with PT it has all been great. I have about 130 degrees bend but still can’t quite straighten it. 6 months Doctor...

    Redline Gear Oil Since 1985

Their 75W/90 MTL (Manual Transmission Lubricant) is the best for most manual trannies. Shifts like butter.

Urban Legend from decades ago ... synthetic oil was "too slick" for engines

Synthetic resists burning to a considerably higher temperature than conventional. Even in a piston engine a fair amount of oil gets past the rings. Synthetic not burning actually means must of it stays on the cylinder wall and makes its way back to the crankcase. Back in the’80s my commute...

Not sure if previous owner used synthetic oil or regular

If you are certain it is reasonably clean use whatever appeals to you. If there is a possibility that it is sludged up, why not try Valvoline R&P?

    Carmaker Nissan on borrowed time?

They should restamp the 240Z with a fresh motor that passes current smog. They could sell a million of them.

Was Your Dad or Granddad a Believer in Non-Detergent Motor Oil?

My Father was born in 1920. He was not particularly mechanically inclined, and didn’t have strong opinions on ND vs detergent oil. But he worked for Chevron and when he bought his first new car (1958 Country Sedan Wagon) he bought a drum (55 gallon) of 20 weight ND oil. I used it for initial...

Wife's assessment when the Wife dies before the Husband

Agreed. I do most of the cooking and share the shopping. I would hire a house cleaner (I am a lousy housekeeper but so is my wife). I also have no issue with not having people around but I would have to have a dog or dogs.

Drove both the Cybertruck and the Sierra EV... There is a clear winner!

They would if it had a chebbie badge on it. Elno Musk is a huge deterrent to buying any Tesla currently.

Do any manufacturers still use break in oil?

Logically, manufactures are using off the shelf (Well, "Out of the barrel") oil. The extra goodies (Moly, etc.) in the crankcase of new engines is most likely from the assembly lube.

Poor little CVT! Change your fluid!

I used Valvoline CVT fluid for 40k mile changes in my 2012 Outback. Passed it along to my DIL last Fall. Still going strong at 300k.
