Strut shaft spins when I try to remove the top nut (strut won't come out.)

For the purpose of this discussion, I shall call these items a 'hex key' which goes into the 'hex hole.' I don't know what the proper terminology is for these parts, it's all a bit confusing. Let's keep it simple: hex key goes into hex hole. (update: I'm actually using a high quality hex bit...

Question about rust prevention: do you absolutely HAVE TO remove the rust first..? Can you get away with leaving what's there and then adding a coat?

So, that's the basic question: must you absolutely remove the rust already there before applying any type of inhibitor or coating of some kind? Is there not an easier way? Can you prevent further rust by simply cleaning the area and applying a coating that SEALS the area? The idea is that if...

    2014 Mazda3 Shocks: Coilovers?

I am VERY strongly considering getting the Bilstein B14 for my Honda Fit 2012. Why do you think the B14 in general is a bad idea? Is it just the lack of adjustability?

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

You think pushing out track a little bit will cause negative camber? or toe changes? I suppose that's possible..

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

Thank you, it's definitely felt----a bit subtle (you'd have to pay attention to it.) There will be more weight savings to come after switching to a lighter (and slightly wider tire.) The Sumitomo P02 175's on it are 17 lbs. which are among the heavier tires out there (average is 16 lb.) There's...

Is low-mileage a poor criteria for car buying?

Can you explain what you mean by this? I'm not sure I understand..

Is low-mileage a poor criteria for car buying?

That's a legitimate question I'm asking here: how important is low-mileage when buying a used car? Obviously the answer is that "it depends," and I'm sure there some models of cars known to be problematic after certain mileage, perhaps especially in the past. I just bought a 2012 Honda Fit...

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

Thus, we conclude that for THIS application: a half inch of extra scrubby induces no negatives effects on handling. The tires mounted by the previous owner are almost brand new: I'm leary of getting rid of them when there is 99% tread left

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

Here's an update: I didn't put wheel spacers. Instead, I just went ahead and got the aftermarket wheels which lowered the offset by 13mm (.512 inches.) I did that for the front wheels only, did a test and it was..............FINE! No bumpsteer, no vague steering, no issues. Then I swapped...

Do tire shops need to clean wheels before sticking balancing weights on them?

Good to know it's my responsibility. I meant to take it What I'm going to do is to clean the area around the stick on weights, and then add reinforcement adhesive such as Flextape.

Do tire shops need to clean wheels before sticking balancing weights on them?

I think they probably should in order to do the BEST job possible. When people take their cars in to have their tires replaced, the wheels are most likely covered in dirt and brake dust----I believe as a matter of best practice when you're balancing the wheels you should clean that surface (and...

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

You are basically correct! I've decided on an experiment: we're going to put on 15mm wheel spacers on the stock steel wheels to see how it feels and if there are adverse handling effects. This is a test only. If it works out, we want light weight aftermarket wheels. This is a great idea.

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

Thanks for chiming in, there are just precious few aftermarket wheel options for the Accent :(. There isn't a single wheel option that sticks close to factory offset.

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

It's 2014 Hyundai Accent base model. So we got 1 vote for yes, and 2 votes for NO!

can I get away 15mm of lower offset (.59 inches) without any evil effects?

It's a slight change which I'm hoping brings a slight improvement in certain characteristics while minimizing the unpredictable negative effects. I want the wheels pushed out a little bit to give it that nice look, I want a very-slightly more weighted-steering feel, more highway stability...

Are wheel locks useless? NO. They do deter, but perhaps not for the reason we think...

Yes, the McGard wheel lock key also broke--they don't seem to be able to handle even moderate amounts of torque before cracking.

Are wheel locks useless? NO. They do deter, but perhaps not for the reason we think...

I had to remove 4 wheel locks from my new-2-me used car. The lady who sold it to the dealership didn't give them the wheel key, and I didn't find out the wheels were locked before I bought the car. This lady had wheel locks installed on her steel wheels (with the hubcaps!) It's quite likely that...
