Financial graphic comparison of buying a new or used car

I think what you'll usually be doing at City Hall will be talking about planning your 7-bedroom home. How much it will cost is for the City Hall to salivate on.

Then that's the one I saw several times on CT-15 last year. Was looking familiar. Small world.

Or they have a beater specifically for this function 😉 The legend goes that on the morning after one of the classic internet companies made all its original employees into teenage millionaires (Yahoo style, but probably not Yahoo), the boss held a short speech, baseball bat in hand, along the...

Financial graphic comparison of buying a new or used car

The real wealthy folks are often folks who own no cars at all. They live in Manhattan and are wealthy enough to cough for a parking spot, but have better use for $25k+/yr on parking/garaging alone. They have a chunk of that going for taxis, and the occasional helicopter shuttle to JFK for...

    1994 Honda Acty

Sweet. With all the insanity going at DMVs about Kei cars - can you register it in your state ?

Ditto. For most New York City residents, you could be Sébastien Loeb's mechanic, you can't maintain a car yourself. When you spend seven years on a waiting list for a spot in your building's parking and the bylaws can put you in trouble for so much as opening your hood to check your oil because...

This is my life with the SantaFe every time I get my rear right wheel in a pothole after the neighboring stop sign, for a good 3 seconds or till I release and reapply the accelerator.

This would be completely different, DSC would prevent powersliding ever so slightly at the limit, making the car lose those few "pass the power to the ground" units, I'll call them Pirate Ninjas like in The Martian. Whereas a human would "overfeed" by a little. Not to mention those little drifts...

Not flawed. They were doing their testing in the 90s with cars that had not seen much evolution since the 80s or earlier. Which, if they had ABS, were probably not the best systems available. The different ABS generations were quite simple - first the number of channels (the first cheaper...

    Not another Valvoline R&P thread

I give kudos to Hyundai/Kia for providing a realistic user manual with realistic numbers, rather than 15k then Ooops OCIs. Manhattan in summertime is stop and go with constant 6k rpm pulls between red lights - even with the V6. Major Deegan or Cross Bronx are parking lot gridlock level sitting...

This is absolutely untrue. The first car in Europe where professional car journalists - some of them ex-racers - could NOT beat the ABS in a controlled environment, on a closed track with perfect conditions, was the Peugeot 406. And it was in 1995. ABS systems have not devolved in 30 years...

    2025 CX-5 rental review

Isn't the CX50 replacing it anyway ? Classic beauty should never change. I fear the day when they'll change. CX90 looks worse than the CX9, CX50 looks worse than the CX5, only the CX30 has managed to do better than the CX3, but then again the CX30 was designed when the CX5 was.

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Reverse-engineering is of little use if the thing is patent-walled layers and layers deep. Most likely this is a third party formula, for which Valvoline paid, and which it has locked for a given amount of years.

The truth is, in real life, if each one of them looks anything close to their respective pictures, Sam will be paying for both cars, driving the used one, and thanking his fate every time the sun rises

Well, if someone decides not to pay for cable TV (assuming a starting point at $100/mo and adjusting for inflation) at age 18, and putting them in the most conservative etfs possible, come retirement they'll be at: Return Rate Value at Age 65 3% $183,408 4% $318,792 5% $310,800 My...

Financial graphic comparison of buying a new or used car

A friend used to save a buck every day by running after the bus from stop A to stop B, instead of getting on it, thus saving the fare. Then one day he decided to go for the big bucks and started running after taxicabs, saving way more.

    - My son, I see that you smoke cigars...are they expensive ? - Yes, Sister, quite expensive, I confess. - And for how long have you been smoking them ? - Well, I'd say - about 30 years or so - Do you realize, my child that should you have not smoked cigars, and saved the money instead, you would...

Trickle charge on Mercedes G63 AMG

It should indeed not be an issue at all, unless your charger goes crazy. The OP states that there's no voltage between the two though, I'm not familiar with MBs, but could it be that there's a diode that would limit or cut current from the battery to these poles ? Just curious.
